In Starz's new series,  Outlander , Tobias Menzies -- known to Game of Thrones fans for his role as Edmure Tully, the groom at a certain Red Wedding -- gets to play two roles. In 1945, as the show begins, he is the good-hearted Frank Randall, husband to the lead character, Claire (Caitriona Balfe). But when Claire is transported 200 years into the past, she meets Frank's far nastier and outright dangerous ancestor, Captain Jonathan "Black Jack" Randall, also played by Menzies.  Read More... //


Outlander  officially premieres on Starz this Saturday -- though you can  watch it early online  -- and it's on track to a be a hit for the cable network. The story features action, time travel, romance, adventure, history, one heck of a leading woman and sweeping landscapes. It may sound like a mishmash of genres thrown together in order to catch different demographics, but it's not superficial. The series is based on the popular books by Diana Gabaldon, and each of the elements listed is important to the story. For example, the battles aren't shoehorned in to meet a violence or shock quota, they're present because the narrative requires it.  Read More... //
