'Partners' will make you laugh in spite of stale jokes

In this age of smart, single-camera comedies, watching CBS' new sitcom "Partners" feels like an unwelcome walk down memory lane. It's filled with cliches, obvious jokes and seemingly canned laughter...but you'll still laugh in spite of yourself. "Partners" follows the lifelong BFF-ship between David Krumholtz's Joe and Michael Urie's Louis, who are now partners in their own New York City architecture firm. Krumholtz is the likable Jewish everyguy; Urie is his overwhelming gay friend. Complicating their bromance is the fact that Joe has just gotten engaged to jewelry designer Ali (Sophia Bush), and Urie is in a long-term relationship with the handsome but dimwitted nurse Wyatt (Brandon Routh). Urie meddles; hijinks ensue.PHOTOS: Fall TV's familiar faces Despite the old-school, obvious gay/straight jokes that pepper the sitcom, it's hard not to see some potential in the cast of the comedy, from "Will & Grace" creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick. Sophia Bush gets over 'Tree Hill' with 'Partners': 'Has there ever been something more perfect for me?'

After 9 years on "One Tree Hill," Sophia Bush could have taken some time off to travel the world, or focus on her many charitable endeavors, or get in some quality time with her girlfriends, or enjoy living near her family again in Los Angeles. Instead, she was the first lead actor cast in CBS sitcom "Partners," from "Will and Grace" creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick. (And you'd better believe she still manages to make time for travel, activism, family, and friends. We keep trying to find out her secret... she might be an superhero, and/or a very pretty android. We'll keep you posted.)When "One Tree Hill" wrapped, Bush didn't intend to rush into a new project. "I'm reading a lot, and I'm looking to find what inspires me, and what really sparks my interest, and what's going to make me want to give up my life the way I gave up my life... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/09/sophia-bush-gets-over-tree-hill-with-partners-has-there-ever-been-something-more-perfect-for-me.html

'Partners' 'funny gay guy' Michael Urie: 'You have to get typecast before you can get cast'

Zap2it: How do you describe your over-the-top character in "Partners," premiering Monday, Sept. 24?Michael Urie: Louis will make rash decisions. He is very emotional, very self-involved. He always makes choices and decisions out of the heart. He is loosely based off Max Mutchnick [the series' co-creator].Zap2it: Do you watch the interactions between Mutchnick and his lifelong pal and co-creator, David Kohan, to inform the character?Michael Urie: It's like they are an act. They are not putting anything on. There is so much fun to be had by them. The fact that we are working on something loosely based on them, they have got their own shtick.RELATED: Zap2it's Fall TV PreviewZap2it: It's the crowded time of year for network shows, so how do you describe yours to make it stand out?Michael Urie: It's going to be a nice adult show, but not racy. In the same vein as, and between 'How I Met Your Mother' and... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/09/partners-funny-gay-guy-michael-urie-you-have-to-get-typecast-before-you-can-get-cast.html
