This entire season felt wrong. There were some great moments within the writing and as always the acting talent on display was superb but the addition of a certain character (Catriona) felt all too forced, the finale itself was terrible considering how good the show has been overall. I'm not sure if one or both networks started to interfere (hence the crappy modern-day female protagonist addition) or if the creator grew bored but whatever the reason to end the show this way was bad form and somewhat of an insult to the cast who performed wonderfully throughout.

I really enjoyed this show and though it didn't have a long run, I believe it was perfectly done. The end was tragically beautiful and that was the only way it could have ended considering who the characters were. A happy ending was never in the cards for any of them. Penny Dreadful will always be remembered as one of my absolute favorite television shows, and I can't wait to see what the actors go on to do next.
