'Political Animals' is done at USA: Miniseries won't be extended

It has been a rough week for USA's marginally rated series. "Political Animals" is the latest of the cable channel's shows to get the ax, following the cancellations of freshman series "Common Law" and second-year show "Fairly Legal.""Political Animals" is a somewhat different, uh, animal than the other two shows in that it was billed as a miniseries. Still, its finale was open-ended enough to allow for the possibility of a second season. That's not happening now."We are proud of 'Political Animals,' our miniseries that attracted critical acclaim and impacted the cultural conversation this summer. It was a pleasure to work with [executive producers] Greg Berlanti and Laurence Mark and a powerful cast led by Sigourney Weaver," USA says in a statement. "We look forward to collaborating again with these immensely talented creatives."TVLine first reported the news. The miniseries averaged about 2.1 million viewers in the same-day Nielsens, rising to 3.2 million in Live +7 ratings.... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/11/political-animals-is-done-at-usa-miniseries-wont-be-extended.html

'Political Animals' Sigourney Weaver: Women 'bascially are practical human beings'

Zap2it: How has it been to work with so many other strong actresses on "Political Animals"?Sigourney Weaver: There's very little posturing or controlling or intimidation. It's much more about inclusion and team building, so I think it's a chance for us to tell the story of how women deal differently and more directly and more practically, because we basically are practical human beings. That's why I'm so pleased to be playing this character. I want to be part of saying to women, "We can do this, and we need to do this, and we need to do it now."Zap2it Were such other film-based actresses as Glenn Close, Holly Hunter and Kyra Sedgwick inspirations in your making a move into weekly television?Sigourney Weaver: You know, I don't really think like that. I was weighing a couple of movie offers, and it was really the material in this case. I do find TV very interesting, because it deals... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/08/political-animals-sigourney-weaver-women-bascially-are-practical-human-beings.html

Political Animals: What Went Wrong with Elaine Barrish

After I realized Political Animals wasn't a pet-themed reality show and was actually about an empowered female politician, I was beyond thrilled. Any miniseries — forgive me, "television event" — that could lure Oscar-nominee Sigourney Weaver to the small screen has to be great, right? Well, yes and no. Only about 20 minutes into the premiere and I began to realize how misguided I'd been. Political Animals isn't about a strong female in government. It's just another prime-time soap featuring a woman whose power is her sexuality and whose weakness is men (yawn). Weaver stars as... //www.tvguide.com/News/Political-Animals-Elaine-1051600.aspx?rss=breakingnews
