On the way home from the convenience store, Subaru finds himself in another world. As he scrambles around trying to figure out where he is, he converses with a food vendor, and then gets attacked by three hoodlums in an alley. Subaru is saved by a fairy girl, who introduces herself as "Satella", and her accompany, Puck; and he decides to return the favor by getting her insignia back that was stolen by Felt. Subaru and "Satella" travel to the loot house Felt lives in only to find out that she was killed, and shortly after entering the house they are killed. Subaru's special ability then activates to rewind time and he finds himself back at the moment he was speaking with the vendor. He decides to head out to the loot house; he meets Felt and Rom, and negotiates with them for the insignia. The person who killed Subaru in the first timeline, Elsa, arrives and the two submit their offers for the insignia. Subaru offers his cell phone whose camera feature is perceived to be more valuable than the money Elsa has and Felt and Rom accepts his offer. However, Elsa kills everybody again when Subaru states his intention to give the insignia back to its original owner. Subaru revives back to the moment he was speaking with the vendor again. He sees "Satella" and greets her, but she questions why he addresses her with the name of the "envy witch".
