Rules of Engagement Boss: "We're the Stepchild of the Schedule, But We're Always There"

Tom Hertz was waiting for the call, like he usually does. After CBS pushed his Rules of Engagement 's dreaded Saturday premiere one week to Oct. 15 (which was already punted from Sept. 24), he knew it would get called up to the plate for a prime weekday slot soon. How to Be a Gentleman had premiered in the coveted post- Big Bang Theory Thursday berth to weak numbers and didn't seem long for this world (measured against CBS' high standards). "They told us we would not be premiering on the 8th, but instead the 15th, and I figured that meant they were going to give How to Be a Gentleman one more shot airing to see if it went up, and if not, then we would jump in at some point," Hertz tells TVGuide.com. "But yeah, I didn't believe we would air on the 15th." The call came Friday, Oct. 7 after Gentleman posted an even worse ratings erosion. The shows will swap time slots, though CBS has since pulled Gentleman from Saturdays as well. Revenge of the Nerds Star to Appear on Rules of Engagement

Revenge of the Nerds  star Curtis Armstrong will guest-star on Rules of Engagement  this season, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively. The part won't be too big of a stretch for Armstrong: He will play himself and will befriend Adam (Oliver Hudson). An airdate for his episode has not yet been determined. Best known as Booger in  Nerds , Armstrong has also co-starred in  Risky Business  and  Ray . On the small screen, he recurred on  Moonlighting  as Herbert Viola and has guest-starred on Grey's Anatomy  and  House . Earlier this summer, he started a multi-episode arc on  The Closer . 'Rules of Engagement': Sony Comedy Sold in Off-Network Syndication

Sony Pictures Television has sold the CBS comedy  Rules of Engagement  to local broadcast stations in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago in an off-network syndication deal. Rules  was sold to WPIX-TV New York (Tribune), KCAL9 Los Angeles (CBS) and WCIU-TV Chicago (Weigel), with station groups including Belo and Meredity also buying the series. "The show’s compatibility with  The Big Bang Theory  and  Two and a Half Men , combined with its strong, consistent performance on CBS among male viewers has been a major enticement to local stations" said SPT president of U.S. distribution  John Weiser , who made the announcement Friday. "It’s a win, win for buyers because the show repeats better than any comedy on television." Financial terms of the deal were not available. 'Rules of Engagement' Secures Season 5 Renewal: Report

'Rules of Engagement' will return for a sixth season, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The CBS sitcom, which has never been a breakout ratings hit, reportedly received a renewal deal thanks to the uncertain future of 'Two and a Half Men.' David Spade, Patrick Warburton, Megyn Price, Oliver Hudson Bianca Kajlich and Adhir Kalyan star in the sitcom about marriage and relationships. 'Rules' has bounced around CBS's schedule, often serving as a midseason replacement.
