Review of Sense8

60 minutes

Sense8 is centered around eight characters that live in different cities around the world who experience a violent vision, and soon find themselves mentally connected by this experience. They are suddenly able to see and talk to each other as though they were in the same place, and have access to each other's deepest secrets. Not only must these eight adapt to this new ability and to each other, they must figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, while being hunted by an organization out to capture, kill or vivisect them.

It is a "good" show. There seem to be two camps, those who think it is "AMAZING!" and those who think it is an "abomination" because of the gay and transgender characters. I think both of those camps are wrong. The show isn't awful, nor is it amazing. I was disappointed because the promos looked SOOOO good, but then again, this is from the same people who made Matrix 2 & 3 and the recent film Jupiter Ascending, so I can't say I'm surprised this wasn't a home run.
All that being said, I'm willing to watch the whole season, not in one day because it isn't THAT good, but it is interesting and well made despite there being no actors that wowed me with their performance. I'm on Ep 6., so far I'd say it is a 3/5... will update if it gets any better by the finale.
UPDATE: Okay, it is pretty amazing. By the end of season 1 I was hooked. However by the time season 2 came out I'd forgotten everything and I didn't think it was worth watching a second time. Well, I got sick and streamed season 1 and it was better the second time around. I saw the depth and that is really what made me upgrade it from a 3 to a 4. It would be a 5 if just a couple of the actors were better actors, but fortunately good writing and direction saved those who were the weakest links. Season 2 was seamlessly woven into the first season, with the only incongruity being the last episode/movie finale, which was a bit out of sync but still good. Overall, I highly recommend it.
