Southland's Back on the Beat — And This Time It's Personal

Despite the gritty realism of its on-the-street look at the Los Angeles Police Department, Southland has always been more about the cops than the cases they work. In Season 5, which premieres Wednesday at 10/9c on TNT, the show takes its character-driven focus even further. "This season is going to deal a lot more with all of our personal demons and putting them to bed or the inability to put them to bed," Michael Cudlitz tells "There are issues that have always been there, but now they're getting magnified. ... 'Southland' Season 5: Chad Michael Murray joins the LAPD

Former "One Tree Hill" star Chad Michael Murray is heading back to TV with a recurring part on Season 5 of "Southland."Murray will play an LAPD officer named Dave Mendoza who's described as likable but a bit of a "loose cannon," per TVLine. He does his job well enough, but off duty, he's something of a bad influence on Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie). ‘Southland’ Renewed for Fifth Season by TNT

Fans of the acclaimed police drama  Southland  can rejoice because the show’s home network, TNT, has given the series a 10-episode order for its fifth season. As most TV viewers will recall, ‘Southland’ aired for one season on NBC in 2009, but was unceremoniously canceled after its debut season. Not taking that cancellation lying down, executive producer John Wells campaigned for the show with TNT taking up the gauntlet, picking the show up for a new season the following year.
