The writing for this episode is absolutely shameful, specifically the O'Brien/Bashir plotline. The Worf/Odo plotline was meh but acceptable, but the O'Brien/Bashir 'line was egregiously terrible. The writers were not true to their established characters' character. That is not what O'Brien & Bashir would have done in that situation, at all. I get the whole learning by negative example mechanism, but nobody learned anything! They just did wrong and bad stuff happened and no lesson was shown, except that good acting can't always save bad writing. The writers of this episode should feel ashamed. Simply horrible.
