'Surviving Jack' series premiere: What did you think of FOX's '90s throwback?

FOX's "Surviving Jack" has brought both Chrstopher Meloni and the early '90s back to TV. The single-camera comedy finds Meloni as a no-nonsense dad, taking over as the main parental figure while his wife goes back to law school in 1991. Having two teenagers under his watch, along with a slew of friends, leads to quite a few funny situations. There's something to be said for the "Wonder Years" feel the show gives off, using music and imagery from the era to immediately transport viewers back to their younger early 90s selves. Is it enough to keep them tuning in again, though?Trading on nostalgia to drive a show certainly hasn't hurt ABC's "The Goldbergs," which is going strong during it's first season and looking likely to get a second. Is the early '90s generation ready to relive their teenage years, though? If so, it might be just about time for hypercolor to make a comeback. <a... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/03/surviving-jack-series-premiere-what-did-you-think-of-foxs-90s-throwback.html

Christopher Meloni goes Archie Bunker in 'Surviving Jack'

Christopher Meloni's new series isn't so much about the law, but there's no question he's still trying to maintain order.Three years after ending his long "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" run as Detective Elliot Stabler, the actor goes for laughs in the FOX sitcom "Surviving Jack," premiering Thursday, March 27.Bill Lawrence ("Cougar Town") is among the executive producers of the 1990s-set show, based on Justin Halpern's autobiographical book "I Suck at Girls." Meloni basically plays Halpern's father, a no-nonsense doctor who becomes a Mr. Mom to his teen children when his wife (Rachael Harris) starts law school."I was kind of leaning toward this arena," Meloni tellsZap2it of tackling a more humorous project than he usually has lately, "and it's been borne out in that I feel lighter in my day."And lighter in his new role, too: "I think people find it refreshing when someone is unapologetically himself, right or wrong. I've been comparing this guy a... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/03/surviving-jack-after-law-and-order-svu-christopher-meloni-is-going-for-laughs.html

'Surviving Jack': Christopher Meloni is enjoying the early 90s time warp

In Christopher Meloni's new FOX comedy, "Surviving Jack," he takes a bit of a time warp back to 1991. While it might not sound like that long ago, it's been over two decades since then and just about everything is vastly different. For Meloni, it's not just the world that's changed, but also his life. "It's a little surreal in that there's a slight disconnect," he tells Zap2it. "At the time I was a different person, you know? I was a young, single, struggling actor guy. Now, I'm playing the guy more as I am now, which is a dad with youngish children."Luckily, playing the more hard-edged dad on the shows isn't completely foreign to him. While Meloni's own parenting might not be nearly as severe as his on-screen counterpart's, he still knows where to draw the line with his kids. "I have a very clear belief system about what's right, what's wrong, what's important and... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/03/surviving-jack-christopher-meloni-is-enjoying-the-early-90s-time-warp.html

'Surviving Jack': Watch and learn the joys of hypercolor clothing

What "The Wonder Years" did for the late 1960s, "Surviving Jack" is looking to do for the early 1990s. Of course, the '90s were a lot louder than the '60s, and the nostalgia is going to be quite a bit brighter. From slap bracelets to neon, the era was filled with an array of fashion that would eventually become regrettable. Perhaps no type of clothing was scarier than hypercolor. Sure, the name sounds cool, but it was clothing that changed color based on heat. Something like that leads to many embarrassing armpit stains for those who wore them.Above, take a look at video explaining exactly what hypercolor is and how it fits into the show. If "Surviving Jack" is to be believed, girls can look past such a tragic fashion statement, if they really like the guy who's making it."Surviving Jack" premieres Thursday (March 27) on FOX.... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/03/surviving-jack-watch-and-learn-the-joys-of-hypercolor-clothing.html

'Surviving Jack' Premiere Preview: A Blast From the Past

Parenthood gets a different treatment as Christopher Meloni, who is most famous for his role as NYPD Detective Elliot Stabler on NBC's Law and Order: Special Victims Unit , steps up to become a stay-at-home dad in the new comedy Surviving Jack .  The series revolves around Meloni's character Jack Dunlevy, an oncologist and former military man, who attempts to raise his children with unconventional methods and "with the least gentle hand possible" while taking viewers on a trip down memory lane at a time when MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice were still the talk of the town. //www.buddytv.com/articles/surviving-jack/surviving-jack-premiere-previe-53001.aspx

‘Surviving Jack’ Teaser Takes An Interesting Approach to Parenting

It makes me depressed to realize shows set in the ’90s are period pieces now, but at least  Surviving Jack  has Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: SVU) in it to ease the blow. Meloni plays a father determined to turn his son into a good man. However, his methods are unorthodox to say the least. In the latest teaser from Fox, Meloni’s tactics include hosing down his son and his friends while they do push ups, breaking his kid’s guitar and more. Check it out below.
