'The Mentalist' creator talks Red John's reveal and what's next for Jane

After five-plus seasons of "The Mentalist," Patrick Jane will finally catch up with Red John, the serial killer who murdered his family, in Sunday's (Nov. 24) episode. That raises a couple of big questions, the first of which is what happens then? And then, what happens next? If Jane (Simon Baker) achieves his goal of killing Red John, where does he -- and where does the show -- go from there?Series creator Bruno Heller is obviously not answering the first question before the episode airs. As for the second one, he says he's happy with the direction the show takes afterward."It felt very much to all of us like that chapter of the story was done," Heller said earlier this week on a conference call with reporters. "Frankly, I think the great asset and value of the show is in Baker's head and what he does. Red John never even appears as a character, physically, until... //

This Sunday (Nov. 24), "The Mentalist" will reveal once and for all the identity of Red John, the serial killer who murdered Patrick Jane's (Simon Baker) family. Amanda Righetti Confirms Her Exit From ‘The Mentalist

The Mentalist ’s Amanda Righetti has confirmed that she will be exiting the CBS series this spring, according to  TV Line . “I feel like the time is probably right. It’s the end of one thing but the beginning of something new,” Righetti said of her decision. Righetti also shared that she doesn’t know how her character Grace Van Pelt will bow out of the crime drama’s storyline. “It keeps changing. It’s been a little bit of a fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants season. I think it was sort of an unexpected turn for the writers too, to have the show kind of be reworked this season. 'The Mentalist': 'The Great Red Dragon' writer on the big bombshells and what comes next

Sunday's (Nov. 17) episode of "The Mentalist" dropped not one, but two huge developments on viewers. The first is Jane's (Simon Baker) assertion that CBI director Gale Bertram (Michael Gaston) is Red John -- and the evidence we see in the episode certainly seems to point that way. The second is that, with Bertram and the Blake Association -- the name for the law-enforcement conspiracy plaguing California -- exposed, the FBI comes in and essentially shuts down the CBI. The bureau even moves out Jane's couch and breaks his favorite coffee cup. It's a whole lot to process, so much that we decided to call in an expert. Jordan Harper wrote "The Great Red Dragon" -- it's his ninth script for the series -- and talks to Zap2it about what happened, and what's to come in next week's episode, titled "Red John."Zap2it: What was the impetus for wanting to end the Red John arc early... //
