For Andrew Rannells, Justin Bartha and Georgia King, the stars of the upcoming NBC family-focused sitcom  The New Normal,  the controversy surrounding their show is largely unwarranted. 'New Normal' series premiere: Will you tune in again?

NBC debuted "The New Normal" Monday night (Sept. 10), the new comedy about a male gay couple (Justin Bartha and Andrew Rannells) who pursue surrogacy via single mom Goldie (Georgia King) in order to start their family. Ellen Barkin also stars as Goldie's grandmother, who is very much against gay marriage and gays as parents. What did you think of the premiere? It's certainly been embroiled in controversy. One Million Moms called for a boycott, and NBC affiliate KSL out of Utah has refused to air it because of possible explicit or crude content. Star Andrew Rannells tells Zap2it that he hopes the very people calling for the boycott tuned in and may see that it's not exactly what they thought it was. "I think they might be surprised that both sides of the gay marriage and gay parent issue is brought up. It's in a comedic way, but both sides are shown," says Rannells.... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/09/new-normal-series-premiere-will-you-tune-in-again.html

The 'New Normal': 'Glee' and 'American Horror Story' producer Ryan Murphy shakes up the family comedy

Ryan Murphy helped bring back musicals with his freak-and-geek-tastic FOX series "Glee," and his "American Horror Story" simultaneously scared the wits out of its viewers while making sly observations about the nuclear family at its core. But "The New Normal," the NBC Tuesday comedy premiering Sept. 11, may be Murphy's most surprising and subversive series yet, finding humor and heart in a decidedly shopworn premise: a couple pursuing their dream of becoming parents. The couple in question here is gay: Bryan (Andrew Rannells from Broadway's "The Book of Mormon"), a successful television producer, and David (Justin Bartha, Nicolas Cage's sidekick from the "National Treasure" movies), a sweet-natured gynecologist. Happily in a stable and committed relationship, they desperately want a child to share their lives but become disheartened by the obstacles they face.Enter Goldie (Scottish newcomer Georgia King), a waitress who has fled a dead-end marriage in Ohio to make a fresh start in California with her precocious... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/09/the-new-normal-glee-and-american-horror-story-producer-ryan-murphy-shakes-up-the-family-comedy.html

'New Normal' to be screened in Utah; KSL station praises 'cordial and respectful dialogue' with LGBT families

Utah television station KSL, owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, announced last week that it would not be airing new NBC comedy "The New Normal" due to possible rude, crude or explicit content. 'The New Normal': Another Chance for Censors to Pretend to Win TV

It hasn't aired yet, but some people already want The New Normal gone. Unfortunately for the show, those people might get their wish. One Million Moms, the PTC and the rest might not have anything substantial to do with The New Normal 's possible failure. But they will still claim it as a victory.
