Murder Brings Nick and Maureen Together on 'The Playboy Club' (VIDEO)

Amid a storm of controversy based more on the name of the show and its magazine association than its content, 'The Playboy Club' (Mon., 10PM ET on NBC) premiered with a mystery and a pretty damned good Jon Hamm impersonation. It's one thing to try and capture the cool swagger of 'Mad Men's Don Draper in a show set in the same decade, but Eddie Cibrian mimicked everything from his icy cool gaze to the pitch, tone and even cadence of his speech. If this were 'Saturday Night Live,' we'd be applauding the impression, but we're supposed to take him seriously here. Cibrian did start to find his own voice as the episode progressed, which was encouraging and far less distracting. //www.aoltv.com/2011/09/20/murder-brings-nick-maureen-together-the-playboy-club-video/

The Playboy Club: Jenna Dewan Previews Series, Responds to Criticism

Jenna Dewan plays Janie on The Playboy Club , which premieres tonight at 10 p.m., and describes her character as "free-spirited, fun, the life of the party" and someone who "definitely loves being a Bunny." But many critics out there don't love that NBC is airing this new drama. Gloria Steinem has called for a boycott of the series, while an NBC affiliate in Salt Lake City won't run it. How does Dewan feel about such an icy reception? "People are overreacting," she told me last week. "Most of the feminists giving us problems haven't even seen the show. I would like for them to actually watch and then state their opinion at least. I'm proud of how we portray women. They're not weak, they're not victimized. We're in control of ourselves and of the situation at all times." That situation, of course, involves Janie and other young women working at the legendary Chicago club in the 1960s, while Eddie Cibrian stars as Nick Dalton, an attorney with a key to the establishment. Dewan obviously acknowledges the skimpy outfits worn by the Bunnies, but says of their occupation: "To have chosen to do this job says a lot about these women and their ambitious nature at the time. They are choosing to make money and to go to college. They aren't content to just stay at home." 'The Playboy Club' Showrunner: 'There's a Perception of the Show That's False'

NBC’s freshman drama  The Playboy Club has had a bumpy road in getting to the screen. The project has had the Parents Television Council up in arms twice – even before the first episode unspooled. First, the PTC took issue with  nudity clauses  included in its actors’ contracts and, more recently, over co-star  Laura Benanti  gracing a retro cover of  Playboy  magazine that they claimed "mainstreamed pornography." In addition, women’s rights activist  Gloria Steinem,  who went undercover in the club the series is based on, claimed the series "normalizes a passive dominant idea of gender" and  called for a boycott . The Playboy Club Boss on the Difference Between Bunnies and Playmates

The main thing that Chad Hodge wants you to know about his upcoming NBC series The Playboy Club is that it's not about the centerfolds. When Hodge, who last created The CW drama Runaway , was first approached by the studio to do a show about Hugh Hefner 's famous Playboy Bunnies, his reaction was, "Is this going to be a scripted version of The Girls Next Door ? No, thank you." But that was before he knew about the rather significant difference between Bunnies and the Playmates. 'The Playboy Club's' Naturi Naughton: 'We have the goods'

Naturi Naughton, who plays Bunny Brenda in the NBC's new series "The Playboy Club," has been building to this moment her entire professional life. Naughton, 27, began her show business career more than 10 years ago as a singer in the girl group 3LW. After a high-profile split from the act, she moved to acting, working on Broadway as well as landing the part as Lil' Kim in the movie "Notorious." Then she played, coincidentally, a Playboy Bunny in a memorable episode of "Mad Men" last season. So it only seems logical her next step would somehow be a combination of her past experiences."It's definitely no accident that I'm here," Naughton told Zap2it when we spoke to her late-August en route to series rehearsal for a large-scale musical number. "Every character and every performance I do helps [me] get to a better place."Her character is much the same way: Everything she does leads her one... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/09/the-playboy-clubs-naturi-naughton-we-have-the-goods.html
