The Secret Circle “Valentine” Review

The Secret Circle : same crap, different day. In this week’s episode , ‘Valentine’, more bad guys come after Cassie, she makes more crappy decisions, Jake and Adam run around after her some more, she learns another new skill at random (witchy super strength , apparently), and Faye has a new magic toy. Quelle surprise , right? I don’t know what I hated more about this episode. It seemed like it might be fairly decent episode (this is ignoring the Jake/Faye hookup  because really, I just don’t care) up until Diana randomly veered out-of-character and took drugs. Then it went rapidly downhill. Even if I wanted to ignore the drugs and appreciate three pretty girls having a fun-filled slumber party, I couldn’t — because Cassie had to turn up all ‘my dad, my dad, ghosts!’ In fact, Cassie has become a one note character. It went from dark magic to her father and back again, and even in what was supposed to be a really sweet scene between her and Adam at the end, she had to go talking about her dad again, even though she did nothing but  state the same shit she’s been saying for weeks . I was glad when they kissed because it finally shut her up. I shouldn’t blame her for all the awfulness of this episode, though. There was Melissa ODing on devil’s spirit and apparently being fine after puking (kids: if this happens to your friend, call 911). And Adam’s possession was hilariously bad. Apparently being possessed by half a dozen tortured witchy souls looks like Gollum having a particularly bad hangover. I wanted to give him some paracetamol and a heat pack for that severely cricked neck, which I’m fairly sure wasn’t the intended audience reaction. 'Secret Circle' Recap: 'Valentine'

Shelley Hennig warned us that Diana would get all hopped up on Devil's Spirit and get into some silliness on this week's episode of "The Secret Circle." It was some welcome levity on the traditionally very serious hit series about a coven of teen witches in a sleepy boat town. This week "The Secret Circle" let its hair down, with some punchy dialog ("bitch, hurry"), teenage hijinks and an action-movie pace. There was (finally!) the (almost) return of John Blackwell by episode's end (more on that later) and the negative effects of drug use were on display without any hackneyed heavy handed preaching from the show's writers, as is often the trap many shows have fallen into. The Secret Circle Review: That's the Devil's Spirit!

It's the most over-used term on television, but The Secret Circle really needs a game-changer. It's not even that nothing happened on " Valentine ." Cassie learned important details about her father; Faye had hot sex with Jake; Melissa nearly overdosed; Adam nearly died; Lee introduced us to his comatose ex; Adam and Cassie totally got to first base. It's just that none of these developments felt particularly fresh or engaging. They didn't leave me dying for next Thursday night to come around, like The Secret Circle 's companion hour so often does. The Secret Circle Recap of Season 1, Episode 14, “Valentine”: Zombie Boyfriend

Valentine’s Day has come to The Secret Circle, and you know what that means! Love is in the air and it’s making everyone nauseous. Time to binge eat some heart-shaped chocolates, cry into an empty Kay Jewelry box, and pretend that Jake (Chris Zylka) is your boyfriend. But don’t forget that romance is deadly in Chance Harbor, and not everyone makes it out of this episode with their guy-liner intact...Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!Like most single ladies, the fem-witches of Chance... //feeds.wetpaint.com/~r/wetpaint/latest/excerpt/~3/TSFPpfUKk_4/the-secret-circle-recap-of-season-1-episode-14-valentine-zombie-boyfriend

The Secret Circle 1.14 Review: Will You Be My Valentine?

For being a show about a group of sexy witches, The Secret Circle sure is deathly serious. They may let Faye out of her cage once and a while to bring a little snark to the proceedings, but other than that, The Secret Circle has turned its nose up at levity and light. It may help the horror movie-ish scenes retain a little oomph, but in turn, it can often make an episode feel a little lifeless and stuffy. In "Valentine", though, there was a little weight lifted off of the show and it responded very well, as this was the first time (maybe ever) that The Secret Circle was allowed to breathe. The show got in a double-whammy, in that the humor came from a girl's night slumber party that allowed Faye, Diana, and Melissa to bounce off one another. It was nice to not only be reminded of why these people became friends in the first place, but separate the group into its two most agreeable chunks. Without Jake, Adam, and Cassie, the complicated threesome got into a little bit of trouble, with Melissa's new Devil's Spirit habit popping up again, only this time bringing Diana into the fold. Usually, a show resorting to so-and-so-under-the-influence humor falls flat with me, but I was so glad to be able to laugh and enjoy myself during an episode of The Secret Circle that it didn't bother me in the least. (Diana, especially, benefited from finally letting go and not worry about Adam for once.) The magical equivalent of cocaine was used almost like a "social lubricant", bringing out issues the three girls had amongst themselves in terms of territory and their past blow-ups, which gave it a purpose beyond "LOL THEY'RE HIGH". You got a little window into the circle before The Secret Circle , including the Diana-turning-her-back-on-Melissa drama from a few weeks ago , and another reminder that behind her perfect hair and withering putdowns, Faye loves/is protective of Melissa. 'The Secret Circle' Recap: Sleeping Over

Wait--what's with the dialogue this episode of The Secret Circle ? It's so... much better than normal. And the characters are cuter, more animated. Slumber Party As a girl, I have often been asked, in a philosophical and literal sense, about what happens at slumber parties (well, enough times to make it count). I'm pretty sure I can point to this episode as an example. Read More... //www.buddytv.com/articles/the-secret-circle/the-secret-circle-recap-sleepi-43908.aspx
