Guillermo del Toro's new vampire drama The Strain premieres on FX on Sunday night at 10, and TheWrap has assembled a primer on what to expect. Yes, there is a portal involved. Rest assured, Guillermo del Toro fans; the filmmaker's penchant for passageways into an alternate world is amply represented here. The Strain: Is FX's Vampire Drama Too Graphic?

Warning: The Strain might not be for everyone. FX's new vampire drama isn't a melancholy love story about the undead cursed to walk the earth for eternity and forced to hide their true nature. Instead, these vampires are fierce, blood-hungry killing machines with basically one goal: spread the strain of vampirism around the world. Based on the novels from Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan , the horror story follows Dr. Ephraim Goodweather ( Corey Stoll ), an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control, whose team is called in to investigate a mysterious "dead" plane that lands at JFK. Every passenger, save for four, have mysteriously died from an unknown virus that will soon turn them into vampires cogs in the ultimate war in which vampires will take over the world.  Read More... //www.tvguide.com/News/Strain-FX-Vampires-Carlton-Cuse-1084190.aspx?rss=breakingnews

The Strain, Guillermo Del Toros New Vampire TV Show, Is Perfect Summer Schlock

During high school and college I used to go to a decrepit mall on the other side of town. Most of the spaces that normally would have held stores had been empty for years, but the pedestrian areas were open and filled with flea market-type stalls where people sold homemade and used goods. People brought dogs and cats into the mall. On weekends you could sometimes buy freshly laid eggs and homemade tamales and churros there. You'd see people having tailgate parties in the parking lot. The only "respectable" business holdout was the movie theater, which showed films for a dollar. My friends and I used to go there on Friday or Saturday nights to catch the midnight shows, which were raucous affairs. Cigarettes and joints were smoked. People talked back to the screen. Beer was openly consumed. It was a rare screening that didn't include the sound of bottles accidentally being dropped on the concrete floor and rolling slowly toward the front of the bowling alley-sized "auditorium." The Strain: Natalie Brown on the Romantic Dilemma Kelly Has Before the Vampire Doomsday

For Kelly Goodweather actress Natalie Brown's character in FX's The Strain, which premieres on July 13 the parasitic vampire outbreak we see in the first episode is just the latest in a long string of crises that take her husband, CDC head Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), away from their family. "That's always been the struggle," Natalie explained during Wetpaint Entertainment's set visit in March. "As much as [Kelly wants] a stable home life, it's something that neither he nor his job... //feeds.wetpaint.com/~r/wetpaint/latest/excerpt/~3/sfY2hsGo5r4/2014-07-11-strain-natalie-brown-romantic-dilemma

The Strain: David Bradley on Playing an Elderly, Vengeful, Action Hero of a Vampire Expert

The Strain: Carlton Cuse on the FX Show's Un-Sparkly, Un-Fanged, Unpretty Vampires

Forget Twilight. Leave True Blood behind. Even ditch classics like Dracula. FX's The Strain, premiering on July 13, is not your ordinary vampire saga. The vamps of this show which was co-created by Chuck Hogan and Guillermo del Toro and based on their novel trilogy are more like parasites. They have bloodsucking projectile stingers instead of fangs, and they certainly don't wear capes, let alone sparkle in the sunlight.   Read More... //feeds.wetpaint.com/~r/wetpaint/latest/excerpt/~3/klx-MEk55YU/2014-07-11-strain-carlton-cuse-vampire-appearance
