The Vampire Diaries 5.08 “Dead Man on Campus”

Aside from Caroline’s hatred for Damon, I really enjoyed this episode of  The Vampire Diaries .  We saw Bonnie adjusting to her new position in the supernatural world. All the girls finally start to settle into traditional college life.  Even Katherine ends up with a new lease on life.  All seemed well, until that cliffhanger at the very end. Caroline and Elena plan a party to welcome Bonnie back.  At least this show still has its sense of humor, as even Bonnie points out in a video message to her mom, “what dorm has a fireplace?”  That whole party planning scene between the three girls was pretty funny, as they talk about making flyers for the party since they’ve each only made one new friend at college.  Conveniently, those two new guy friends, Jesse and Aaron, are revealed to be roommates.  Caroline only discovers this when she gets a call from a frantic Jesse asking her to come help him before he attacks his roommate.  She finds that he’s a vampire now, and vows to teach him the ropes of vampirism with the help of Elena. The Vampire Diaries Recap: Stefan vs. Damon, Round 21 — What Is Your Greater Good?

Last night was my favorite kind of TVD episode. It was fun (parties! booze! making out!) but it also had a lot of depth and heart. We got to take a closer look at relationships that haven’t been given the spotlight in a while — Elena and Caroline, Stefan and Katherine. Also, Damon got some purpose and Bonnie’s plotline didn’t totally suck (I mean, it did for her, but that’s different).   What I’m really loving about this season is that we’re getting the chance to see real emotional consequences. So much has happened to our gang that at this point they all have post-traumatic stress disorder. There are crazy story lines on this show. Moonstones and werewolves and doppelgangers and nutty professors and serial killers — and they pull most of them off. But what TVD has always shined at is beautiful, human emotion. Relationships. That is what this show is built on. And last night, we got to see a lot of them evolving.  Read More... //www.vulture.com/2013/11/vampire-diaries-recap-season-5-dead-man-campus.html

'The Vampire Diaries' Recap: Feed on the Monsters

On tonight's episode of The Vampire Diaries , Bonnie's back and dealing with the consequences of her return. Jesse turns to Caroline for help. Damon interrogates Dr. Maxfield and makes an unexpected discovery. Elena and Caroline throw their first college bash. Katherine and Stefan reconnect. Maxfield's Monster Dr. Maxfield continues to perform experiments on Jesse who is now a full-fledged vampire. Why it took 14 days as opposed to the usual 24 hours or so is not yet clear. Like every scientific experiment, there can be unforeseen variables, and in this case, Jesse escapes his shackles after the contents of a meal make him especially aggressive and strong. I'm guessing Maxfield tampered with this blood in some way. Caught unprepared, Maxfield falls prey to Jesse's hunger.  Read More... //www.buddytv.com/articles/the-vampire-diaries/the-vampire-diaries-recap-51946.aspx

'The Vampire Diaries' recap: 'Dead Man on Campus' finally made us care about Augustine vampires

What seemed like a random new piece of mythology on "The Vampire Diaries" is actually much more relevant than we ever thought. Thursday (Nov. 21) night's episode, "Dead Man on Campus," gave us a major reason to care about the whole Augustine vampire mystery ... Damon was one of the secret society's test subjects back in 1953!Turns out, Dr. Maxfield is not the first shady guy to run experiments on vampires. He comes from a long line of over 60 years of scientists trying to create a new version of a vampire: one that doesn't feed on human blood. These new, stronger vampires crave vampire blood. The way we know that this isn't just some myth? We saw it firsthand on Jesse.RIP Jesse, we hardly knew ye. After Maxfield successfully turned Jesse into an Augustine vampire, he attacked Maxfield and escaped, calling on Caroline for help. Another huge reveal: Jesse is Aaron's roommate! With their bestie Bonnieback from the dead and enrolled at classes at Whitmore, Elenaand Carolinedecide that it's time to forget about the drama for a minute and party!
