Meet Danai Gurira, 'The Walking Dead's' Michonne

On Sunday (March 18), "The Walking Dead" ended the show's second season with a dramatic reveal -- the introduction of a new character: the much-anticipated Michonne. She appeared for only a few seconds -- long enough to come to Andrea's rescue when she was about to become a zombie's dinner.Although we didn't get a peek at the actress hiding beneath the hood, she's actress Danai Gurira, who last charmed us as Jill on HBO's "Treme" and was one third of the amazing cast that made up the 2007 Oscar-nominated sleeper hit "The Visitor." She's also showed up in guest spots on "Law & Order," "Lie to Me" and "Life on Mars." According to her IMDB profile, Gurira was born in Iowa to parents from Zimbabwe and when she was five, the family moved back to their home country. Gurira has an MFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and co-authored the play "In the... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/03/meet-danai-gurira-the-walking-deads-michonne.html

'The Walking Dead': Michael Rooker says he's back for Season 3

Wondrous news for fans of "The Walking Dead" from WonderCon, where actor Michael Rooker announced that he will be returning to the show in Season 3 as Merle Dixon, Daryl's trouble-making older brother.During a panel for the zombie-centric video game "Lollipop Chainsaw," Rooker discussed his return and added that he had to lose 20 pounds for the role, reports Daily Dead.Twenty pounds? Sounds like Merle's either been on the run or perhaps imprisoned by a sadistic new character we know is arriving in Season 3, too: The Governor (David Morrissey has been cast). Fans of the show know we last saw a living, breathing Merle on the top of an Atlanta highrise where he had been handcuffed to a pipe by Rick. In Season 2 he made a brief return in Daryl's fever dream. Zap2it has reached out to AMC for confirmation. Also on Saturday (March 17), the show's official Twitter account sent out this... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/03/the-walking-dead-michael-rooker-says-hes-back-for-season-3.html

'The Walking Dead's' Michonne gets a Playboy spread

It's not what you think. One of the most popular characters from "The Walking Dead's" comic book source material is a samurai sword-weilding hottie named Michonne. Fans -- and even co-executive producer Gale Anne Hurd -- have been clamoring for Michonne to make her way onto AMC's TV adaptation of the story since the show launched in 2010. We've been promised -- kind of -- that Michonne is in fact coming in Season 3. We haven't had any actual casting announcement yet, but the character has been dangled as a tantalizing addition to the cast, along with the Governor who we know will be played by David Morrissey. Now, possibly in a bid to acquiant the general public -- at least a certain segment of it -- with Michonne, comic book series creator and show co-executive producer Robert Kirkman is set to publish Michonne's origin story in the April issue of Playboy, which hits newsstands on... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/03/the-walking-deads-michonne-gets-a-playboy-spread.html

'The Walking Dead': Pregnant Lori's not immune from death, says Glen Mazzara

With one episode left in Season 2 of "The Walking Dead," executive producer Glen Mazzara is promising even more bloodshed before the credits roll on Sunday's (March 18) season finale. In the last two episodes we've lost two major characters and fans are wondering if more main characters will bite the dust on Sunday. Considering the number of fans gunning for the demise of Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) -- Rick's fickle wife who pretty much set him on a collision course with Shane that led to Shane's death -- could be zombie meat next? She's definitely not a fan favorite, which is good and bad. She's also pregnant which would make the death somewhat controversial. Here's what showrunner Mazzara has to say on the matter:"If it's earned and character-based and propels the story forward, nothing's over the line for us," Mazzara tells Zap2it. "Dale's death propelled the story forward in a big way -- even Lori's going... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/03/the-walking-dead-pregnant-loris-not-immune-from-death-says-glen-mazzara.html

'The Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal officially joins TNT's 'L.A. Noir'

Now that his character on "The Walking Dead" has been officially been killed off (twice for good measure), actor Jon Bernthal has been confirmed as the lead actor in "L.A. Noir," the upcoming Frank Darabont-led TNT cop show.Darabont was responsible for Bernthal's casting as the Shane on "The Walking Dead." When Darabont abruptly left the show in July 2011, Bernthal -- along with his fellow co-stars -- was mum about their showrunner's departure, but when Darabont landed a new pilot with TNT, speculation immediately focused on the actor as a potential leading man for the project. And, thanks to a marketing snafu, confirmation of Bernthal's "Walking Dead" death leaked in February which made his leap to Darabont's new show even more of a likelihood."L.A. Noir" is based on John Buntin's book about the decades-long conflict between the LAPD and the Los Angeles underworld. Set in the 1950s, Bernthal will play a cop hot on the trail... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/03/the-walking-deads-jon-bernthal-officially-joins-tnts-la-noir.html

'The Walking Dead' finale sneak peek: 'Beside the Dying Fire'

You know you're in for some serious chills when a sneak peek clip is preceded with a voiceover like: "Due to the intense nature of the season finale this is the only sneak peek that will be released prior to the premiere." In the short clip above from the upcoming "The Walking Dead" Season 2 finale, we see Carl (Chandler Riggs) and his dad (Andrew Lincoln) walking back to the farm from the scene of ***SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED LAST WEEK'S EPISODE YET*** Shane's death(s). Carl wants to know what happened. Were his two dads attacked by walkers? Because, says Carl, he didn't see any. Rick is on the verge of explaining why he had to take Shane out of the equation when snarling starts somewhere near at hand and see the massive herd of zombies emerge from the darkness behind them. OMG!We didn't quite pee our pants, but it was a close call.... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/03/the-walking-dead-finale-sneak-peek-beside-the-dying-fire.html
