Tonari no Seki-Kun Episode #21 Anime Review

In a rather amusing and much needed twist, Yokoi’s teacher has called her into the office to talk about how she seems so distracted recently and that she needs to get things back on track. What she overhears there though is that a surprise personal belongings inspection is about to happen in homeroom and she hopes that Seki will get caught and his things taken away, which will help settle down the problem a bit of her distraction. Unfortunately for her, Seki has brought in the robot family to play with and she’s quite attached to them and starts to worry what will happen to them since she’s so invested in the family and their actions. There’s a lot of fun as Seki doesn’t quite get what’s going on at first and goes in the wrong direction to deal with the inspection, but the bulk of the fun comes from the way Yokoi is so invested in everything. Of course, things have to go in a bad way for Yokoi in the end but it’s comical just seeing how invested she gets in things. Tonari no Seki-Kun Episode #20 Anime Review

While Seki does come up with some unusual ways to amuse himself and kill time, he does come back to some familiar pieces that most people do at one time or another. Such is the launching point here as he starts a flip book that Yokoi thinks she can ignore but ends up being drawn to because it has the potential for an interesting story. To take it to the next level though, he starts listening to some recorded material he’s made for it and just expanding it in a way that has Yokoi viewing it more as flip-animation at this point. Her curiosity gets the better of her when he leaves and she listens to the recording and watches the flipbook go by and realizes what kind of strange experience he’s created by going with sound effects and a great song. Tonari no Seki-Kun Episode #19 Anime Review

With the pair having worked together a bit recently, things are naturally back to normal for this episode. Or what passes as normal here as Seki has changed things up for this class by wearing glasses for the first time. This is a shocking moment for Yokoi as she tries to understand when it happened and why it happened, especially since he’s doing a lot of things to see how he looks while wearing them. Not one to go small, he actually brings out a dozen or so different types of glasses to try on and experiment with, which sends Yokoi into a panic over it since it’s going to be a whole lot of trouble. There’s a lot of fun with this as each pair ends up giving Seki a different look and personality, which Yokoi of course plays with in her mind, and it’s just silly fun to see how he handles it all. Tonari no Seki-Kun Episode #18 Anime Review

While Seki and Yokoi have been sitting next to each other for awhile now, and they’ve interacted in certain way, it’s been very distant overall. This time around, the two have to push their desks together due to not enough worksheets being printed out and they have to share. That has Seki completely mad about it since it means he can’t do his usual playing. Or at least that was the idea at first but he ends up just going into it. Seki decides that he’s going to interact with her directly with card tricks, but she does her best to ignore him and focus on the classwork .He gets so into it though that you have to laugh because he’s so outgoing and cheerful with it, but also crafty. It plays out pretty well as she does her best to avoid things but he just goes at it in some cute ways. Read More... //www.fandompost.com/2014/05/06/tonari-no-seki-kun-episode-18-anime-review/

Tonari no Seki-Kun Episode #17 Anime Review

With the kids in English class this time, there’s not much in the way of class activities that will make an impact here. Which is good as Seki has basically come up with a paper version of Mr. Potato Head in a way with Fukawarai, which has him using a paper body and placing face pieces on it while blindfolded. Yokoi’s unable to restrain her laugher from the get go as he plays this cihldren’s game. While he starts it off in a simple way as most kids would – and excels at it – he goes over the top with all sorts of comical hairstyles and other pieces to use. Which naturally has Yokoi getting invested in the “person” that is having all of these applied to him. She really brings it to life like we’ve seen in other episodes and this is no exception. With Seki taking it further by creating a family and a story with more of these characters, it just spirals out of control with how Yokoi views it all. Tonari no Seki-Kun Episode #16 Anime Review

While last week gave us a little time away from Yokoi, her presence was definitely felt throughout it, even for Seki which made for some cute moments. With health class underway, Seki is definitely looking to ignore what’s going on and he’s pulled out his shogi set for more fun, this time with chess pieces on one side and the shogi on the other in order to wage war. And it’s a pretty intense battle in the dark as the class watches a film and the chess pieces overwhelm the shogi pieces, and that just panics Yokoi in a big way so that she has to get involved herself. Which is done pretty creatively as she begins to slide pieces there herself which changes the course of the fight as Seki isn’t sure what’s going on. His panic is utterly hilarious as it goes on though since the pieces just keep reappearing and Yokoi’s ghost-like presence from the previous episode fels even more powerful here to great effect. Tonari no Seki-Kun Episode #15 Anime Review

With as varied as school can be throughout the day with classes and schedules, it’s nice that we do see that the series changes things up enough. This time around, we get an art class episode where they’ve got their carving assignments ahead of them but it gives us something a little different as instead of Yokoi for the majority of it, we get Goto sitting behind him and she sees him setting up a paper sumo game to play with, using a mecha sumo wrestler and a normal one. With Goto providing the narration, we get the fun of Seki’s paper sumo matches but she views it as a breakup between Yokoi and Seki played out through the game and it just drives her crazy to think of her friend in such a bad place and unable to participate. It’s definitely cute and fun, especially with the Yokoi gag that comes into play in ghostly form towards the end. Tonari no Seki-Kun Episode #14 Anime Review

While we got to spend some time at the pool with the characters in the last episode, this one takes us to lunch period where it’s going to get weird to be sure. With the way Seki exists, having him eat his food like he’s a giant creature eating smaller ones definitely has some humor to it, especially as Yokoi wonders if she’s imagining it at first. It’s not overly dramatic, but with him having a whole box of the little sliced guys that he can basically spearfish and devour, it plays to the minds of many boys (and a few of Seki’s age) who are trying to find some level of power and control in their lives, even for humor’s sake. Of course, Seki has to give himself a nemesis even while playing like this and that means one of the octopuses has to have a weapon and some adornments, which is basically just some additional tasty goodness for him. Tonari no Seki-Kun Episode #13 Anime Review

With most of the episodes focusing on events in the classroom, this one shifts us to the outside a bit as the gym class with the pool is involved here as the kids learn some basic safety lessons and the like. Of course, while Yokoi is doing her best, Seki has brought his toys to the pool and is generally just goofing off with friends and getting away with it. Amusingly, she does her best to hide the toys for a bit so that he can focus on the actual lesson at hand, but it goes badly when one of the other kids in the class finds them and starts messing with them, which she’ll obviously feel really badly about. That leads her to doing her best to rescue things and it’s just cute to see the way she deals with this, realizing her mistake and doing her best to fix it before Seki can find out and really get upset, since he is kind of childish in a lot of ways. Tonari no Seki-Kun Episode #12 Anime Review

While Seki has largely worked with simple things for the most part with how he wastes time, he’s taking it up a notch today in his math class, which has him pulling out a remote controlled car to work with. Yokoi is cute in that she’s ready to warn him off of something so big, but he seems to be doing his work more than anything else. At least until she realizes that he was really working on a driver’s test form and has now built a sizable test track on his desk with a lot of cute items to really make it authentic. While he does waste time, he does it with such skill and detail that it is totally admirable. Read More... //www.fandompost.com/2014/03/24/tonari-no-seki-kun-episode-12-anime-review/
