‘True Detective’ Is HBO’s Highest Rated Series Premiere Since 2010

HBO’s new drama “True Detective” proved to be a ratings hit for HBO with its Sunday night premiere, drawing the network’s highest number for a series premiere since “Boardwalk Empire” in 2010. The 9 p.m. premiere of “True Detective” — which stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as a pair of detectives who are drawn into a murder investigation — drew 2.3 million total viewers. That’s considerably fewer than the 4.8 million that the “Boardwalk Empire” premiere grabbed, but enough to reach the 2010 milestone. And the “True Detective” premiere beat out the recent series premieres for “Game of Thrones” and “The Newsroom,” which drew 2.2 million and 2.1 million total viewers, respectively.  Read More... //www.thewrap.com/203317/

On HBO's True Detective, Murder Isn't the Biggest Mystery

On its face, HBO's  True Detective   looks like a number of other dark and twisted serial killer murder mysteries. But it becomes clear very early on that the show's creator, novelist  Nic Pizzolatto , has much more on his mind. "I'm not interested in creating disgusting monsters or the most bizarre serial killer ever," Pizzolatto tells TVGuide.com. "My primary concern is always the humanism of the characters. Where the show gains its power for an audience, I think, is in things that aren't investigative at all. It's in two men talking to one another in a car. It's in a man coming over to another man's house for dinner and eating with his family. Those are the things that always interest me."  Read More... //www.tvguide.com/News/True-Detective-Nic-Pizzolatto-Matthew-McConaughey-1075552.aspx?rss=breakingnews

'True Detective': Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson want to be cowboys

In the hinterlands of Louisiana, a naked young woman has been murdered and bound, kneeling, near a tree, with antlers tied to her head. The only thing stranger than the crime may be the investigation -- and the investigators.Written by novelist Nic Pizzolatto ("The Killing"), HBO's eight-episode "True Detective," premiering Sunday, Jan. 12, measures the cost of two men's obsession with justice. 'True Detective': Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson tease the show's big mystery

Exploring one crime over the course of a television season is a familiar concept for TV viewers. "The Killing," "Broadchurch" and "Twin Peaks," among others, have all engaged viewers with season-long mysteries. HBO's new series "True Detective," premiering Sunday (Jan. 12), will offer a new twist on the format by featuring dual timelines that  reveal what happened in the show's central case in both the past and present. It's the story take took place during that gap in time that has stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson the most engaged. They tell Zap2it that they think the biggest mystery of the show is what happened between the 1995 murder investigation and the 2012 present-day where their characters, Rustin Cohle and Martin Hart, are questioned about their solved case. "I think what's fun to be exposed and the reason I'm wanting to see the next episode is, after we've met our guys in 1995 and... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/01/true-detective-matthew-mcconaughey-woody-harrelson-tease-the-shows-big-mystery.html

‘True Detective’ (HBO) Trailer: “When Someone is Telling You the Truth, It’s Their Truth, Isn’t It?”

If  True Detective  somehow turns out to be a lemon, the people behind the trailers deserve an Emmy for making the series look so compelling. I don’t think it will be a lemon though. 'True Detective': Watch another slow-burning teaser for HBO's series

Whatever else HBO's "True Detective" ends up being, it will likely be one of the most moodily atmospheric series of 2014.That has been the takeaway from previous looks at the show, which stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as a pair of Louisiana detectives. The newest teaser adds to the slow-burn feel of the show -- heck, the clip is even titled "Slow Boil." It also gives a clearer hint at how the show will be structured: Harrelson's and McConaughey's characters work a brutal case in 1995 and revisit it in the present, when neither man is nearly the same as he was then."True Detective" premieres Jan. 12 on HBO.
