'Ugly Betty' and the UN Vs. Malaria

Betty (America Ferrera) has always charmed us all with her insight, which only makes it right that Ugly Betty 's fourth season is going to be full of that good deed good feeling. According to TV Guide, the upcoming premiere of the show has already led its stars to do some altruistic work, as they all turned up at the United Nations recently to promote the fight against malaria. Ugly Betty teamed up with the UN Foundation's Nothing But Nets program, which encourages everyone to use bed nets to keep mosquitoes away. But it certainly won't keep fans of the show away since the campaign is necessary to support the show as well. "It's really a perfect marriage," actress Judith Light exclaimed. "Betty Suarez is a person who has a great heart and a great soul. So in this story, it's not a stretch at all that she comes from a place that wants to help other people. She's trying to change hearts and minds about the way we all relate to each other." If you'd like to see Betty try to pitch her anti-malaria idea to the magazine, check out the clip here. But since her ex-boyfriend now-boss Matt wasn't too interested in her thoughts, she decides to come up with another one. Betty suggests using the bed nets and turning them into a new fashion statement. Later, she organizes a photo shoot at the UN itself, spreading the word about the Nothing But Nets crusade even further. Ugly Betty creator Silvio Horta was very adamant in working with the UN for the show. Director and executive producer Richard Heus said of the collaborative project, "We took that back to the writers, and they said, 'Mosquito netting [and] fashion -- that's very logical. But we put that together and it worked. The storyline resonated with pretty much every member of the cast and crew. It was something we all could easily support and feel is very important. We're very grateful." Source: BuddyTV.com - 'Ugly Betty' and the UN Vs. Malaria

Ugly Betty: New Return Date & Season 4 Promos - Featured

ABC has just released promo shots for the fourth season of Ugly Betty (premiering Oct. 16, as of this afternoon), and, boy, do they look pretty or what? Looking at the photos, it doesn't take a Henry-like genius to understand that this season will likely focus on blossoming. How else would you explain all the attention to butterflies? (Unless, of course, the show's producers are trying to court a one Mariah Carey.) But the biggest draw for the season: Betty's long-awaited makeover. I'm glad the show didn't go overboard on this one -- girl still is sporting the red-framed glasses -- but it's only logical that Betty would have dropped the poncho after several years at Mode. (Now, if only they'd do something about those braces, if only for the sake of America Ferrara's makeup artist.) But, folks, the real question here is: Are these shots enough to draw you into the show? Will Betty's make-over convince you to set your DVRs? Sadly, even though the show has hardly dipped in quality throughout the years, Betty's ratings just aren't what they used to be. And with ABC moving the series to a Friday death-slot, the once-beloved program seems poised for cancellation. But for the love of Judith Light, don't let it be so! Will you watch, fellow Betty fans? Or are you done with the show like Wilhelmina's done with tunics? Source: 'Ugly Betty' promos released -- but will you watch?

The New 'Ugly Betty' Assistant Is Jamie-Lynn Sigler

Here's another casting alert for the new season of Ugly Betty , and it's a bit major if you consider Daniel's (Eric Mabius) relationship with Betty (America Ferrera). According to the latest buzz, the grieving Meade will be getting a new assistant and confidante. Wait, where does leave our brace-faced heroine? Asked if Daniel will be getting a new girlfriend on the fourth installment of the show, TV Guide's Mickey O'Connor said: "Not exactly. A woman he meets at a bereavement class will become his assistant... and confidante. And what will this Betty substitute look like? She'll look like Entourage 's Jamie Lynn Sigler, but with a twist." The actress herself had this to reveal: "You won't recognize me in my hair and makeup. It's kind of a disguise." While Mickey O'Connor hopes the disguise won't involve Betty's trademark braces and a poncho, I have something else in mind. Seeing the photos of this guest star reminds me of Helena Bonham Carter's character in Fight Club . Dark-haired, dark-eyed and crazy with the outfits. She meets the narrator, portrayed by Edward Norton while they're scamming support groups. It sounds a lot like Natalie, the Ugly Betty counterpart played by Jamie-Lynn Sigler. I do doubt they'll take things to the bedroom as easily as on Fight Club though. Anyway, ABC has confirmed that she'll be appearing on the second episode of the season, titled "Blue on Blue." The official description of the episode bills Natalie as "a sexy girl who takes [Daniel] out for an interesting night on the town." Well, she might not be the same as the previous ladies the Meade man has dated. Besides, he's still getting over Molly so that's practically out of the question. Another thing that worries me is Betty's new role in her relationship with Daniel, especially since Natalie is supposedly his new "confidante." It's likely that this means Betty will stop having to take care of Daniel and the two will just remain great friends. Source Here

Shakira, Christie Brinkley Check In to Ugly Betty's Bahamas Episode

"She Wolf" Shakira and model-actress Christie Brinkley will appear in an upcoming episode of Ugly Betty , TVGuide.com has learned exclusively. The women will appear in an episode that primarily takes place in the Bahamas, where Betty & Co. travel to complete a photo shoot. Shakira will play herself. Executive producer Silvio Horta says the Colombian pop star happens to be in the Bahamas at the same time as the Mode crew and plays a pivotal role in helping save the day after things go awry. Will little Justin, Betty's nephew, be there too? "Justin's the one who knows [Shakira's] alias," Horta reveals. Brinkley, once a very successful swimsuit model herself, will play Penelope Graybridge, the editor of a competing fashion mag. Alas, she will not feel the sands of Nassau between her toes, as her character's story will be based solely in New York. Other than doing a lot of this in the Chevy Chase Vacation movies, Brinkley is relatively new to acting. Cast and crew are headed to the islands now to film the episode, which is scheduled to air during November sweeps. The new season of Ugly Betty premieres on Friday, Oct. 9 at 8/7c on ABC. Michael Urie: "More Drama" on 'Ugly Betty'

Is the popular ABC comedy going darker? Well, not entirely. But Ugly Betty star Michael Urie says there's going to be quite the radical change in the upcoming season of the show. Of course, that involves plenty of scheming from his character, Marc St. James, and Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa L. Williams). On an interview with magazine In2Town, the 29-year-old actor revealed what we can expect from the new installment of the series, airing this October . "Well, there'll be more drama now," Urie revealed. "[...] Wilhelmina no longer has an easy way back to the top, so she and I will spend a lot of time figuring out ways to get back. I know Amanda will continue to search for her father, which is very odd and exciting." As for the title character on the show, Urie admitted: "Betty will continue to try and figure out who is better for her, Gio the sandwich guy or Henry the accountant. That's going to be a big thing. The thing is, I can't remember what you know already and what you don't know. I don't know what I can say." Michael Urie also had a lot to say about Marc St. James, particularly the peculiar fashions he wears on Ugly Betty. He wouldn't normally refuse the wardrobes they make him don, unless they're too tight or make them look like his head's afloat. "I'll go with whatever they tell me to wear, because it's usually funny," he said. "I mean, how many times do you get to play a character that's funny before they even say anything?" All in all, the one thing he's learned from his character was how to dress. With clothes being one major element on Ugly Betty, there's no doubt Michael Urie would pick up on that. "I have learned from him, and I have learned what not to wear from him. And I've learned a lot from the wardrobe people, who are great," Urie explained. "[...] I used to wear black shoes and a brown belt. T hat's wrong, isn't it? So everything I know about fashion I've learned from Ugly Betty ." Source Here

'Ugly Betty' Wardrobe Struck By Recession

Wilhelmina Slater might need to tune down her fashion statements. Reports have it that there have been a few budget cuts plaguing the set of Ugly Betty . The decision was made, and the ABC series decided to hold back expenses for the character's wardrobe. Vanessa L. Williams, who portrays the character on the show, explained the situation to the press. On an interview with WWD Fashion, the actress said that the Ugly Betty fashionista will have to take on a new style just to fit the budget. "With the economic situation what it is, we scaled down in terms of the type of clothing that we're getting," Williams announced. "There was a Naeem Kahn dress that went for $3,000, and they watched it and watched and by the time we got it, it was like $800. So we are being mindful of the budget and waiting for markdowns on Ugly Betty." Because of that, she admits that she may have to recycle some old clothes. Well, while still remaining stunning of course. "We've gone through a lot of stuff that is late Eighties, early Nineties, which is fantastic - a lot of stuff I used to wear when I was recording back in the day." We hope the recession won't affect the quality of the show though, since the character is very particular about the clothes she wears. She's MODE royal Wilhelmina Slater, for crying out loud. But then again even she has to bow down to crisis. We might see less of her sophisticated wardrobe, and we wouldn't mind as long as she remains a worthy antagonist to Betty (America Ferrera). The surprisingly 46-year-old Vanessa Williams recently displayed her own fashion sense when she hosted this year's Daytime Emmys. She blew everyone away with her opening performance, when she sang and danced to a parody of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" from Broadway's Jersey Boys musical. She was later seen with Dancing with the Stars ' Gilles Marini for another entertaining number.
