The second series of the lavish costume drama draws to a close, and prime minister Peel is fighting the most important battle of his career. In parliament, he must face the consequences of taking a stand against the Corn Laws. Albert inadvertently plays into the hands of Peel's critics, and jeopardises the progress they have fought for. Tensions are running high in the palace, as the relationship between Victoria, Albert and Victoria's confidante Lehzen is pushed to breaking point. The prospect of losing their respective crutches creates a rift between Victoria and Albert. However, when tragedy strikes, sacrifices have to be made.
