Mary-Louise Parker Discusses the End of Weeds

The end is almost here for  Weeds , which will air its final episode of September 16th. It’s been quite a road for Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker) on the series, which has reinvented itself many times. This past week at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, I was among a group of journalists who spoke to Parker, on the heels of the final Weeds panel. Read More... //

Weeds Sneak Peeks: Nancy Dresses to Impress

Believe it or not, Nancy Botwin has actually been trying to get out of the more dangerous aspects of the drug industry this season on Weeds. After being gunned down in the seventh season finale, the mother of three has had her priorities rejiggered from profit margins and random flings to making her youngest son pancakes and meeting her middle son's girlfriend over dinner. It's a far cry from the hell-raising, danger-seeking mama that we had for the past seven seasons, but can it last? Can Nancy go straight? Not quite, but she has made leaps toward becoming legitimate. In the sneak peeks for the next episode of Weeds, titled "Unfreeze", Nancy is on the prowl - for a job. In an office. Granted, she's not completely out of the drug business yet, but rather than unsafe meetings with people that would like nothing more than to see her dead, she's working through a medical office. It's not an awful plan, mind you. With the money she can get from her new job, Nancy can buy a little time to figure out her next move (to get out of the industry completely or not) and support her family in the process. That takes a little pressure off of budding entrepreneur Silas and anxiety-ridden Jill, while giving Nancy something she didn't know she needed - time with her loved ones. Read More... //

Weeds' Mary-Louise Parker on the Series Finale: "I Cried When I Read It"

For a half-hour comedy, the mood on the final panel for Weeds at the Television Critics Association fall TV previews Monday was surprisingly somber as creator Jenji Kohan and the cast, particularly star Mary-Louise Parker , reflected on the last eight seasons. "I'm just proud of [Kohan] and everybody, and sad," said Parker, who said she didn't want to come to the panel. "All things have to end. I'm just proud of all of us. I think [Kohan] just made something amazing...  //

Showtime Boss on Weeds, Big C Endings and Dexter's "Game-Changing" Season

Showtime finished its 2011-2012 season with nearly 22 million subscribers and 22 Emmy nominations, with five of those in the four leading acting categories. Much of that honor goes to freshman drama Homeland , which is the most-nominated series for the network. After sneak-previewing trailers for two upcoming series -- Masters of Sex and Ray Donovan -- David Nevins, Showtime's president of entertainment addressed this season's farewells to The Big C and Weeds and teased what's coming up for Dexter and Homeland , both of which will return on Sept. 30. //

Weeds Series Finale to Welcome Back Familiar Characters, Not Hang Off Any Cliffs

On September 16, Andy will sleep with his final woman, Silas will complete his last grow and Doug will utter his farewell curse word, as Weeds says goodbye after eight seasons. What can fans expect on the finale? "It’s beautiful... I just cried when I read [the script]," Mary-Louise Parker said this afternoon at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills. "[Series creator Jenji Kohan] managed to bring things together in a way that was really satisfying to me. She didn’t make it a ‘happily ever after’ thing, but there was hope in it and there was some sort of benediction." Read More... //

Weeds Sneak Peeks: Silas Strips and Somebody's Pregnant

Now that Silas Botwin has went into business away from his mother, he's had to assume more responsibility than he had previously. After being involved in the drug business for seven seasons, he knows it backwards, forwards, and upside down, having deliberately pulled away from Nancy last season in a fit of independence. But by assuming a bigger role in the industry, he has to do things that he might not have had to do in other seasons of Weeds . Upon being caught trying to take back his plants, the young man gets mistaken as a stripper for a birthday party happening in the house. Silas has already became a Christian Grey like figure with Kiku earlier in the season, but that was voluntary and this...this is more "stripping for your life". If he drops his guard, he could risk exposing his true intentions in coming to the house that night and maybe even get arrested, so for the time being, he has to swallow his pride and shake it like he means it. Weeds Sneak Peeks: Nancy and a Rabbi Walk Into a Bar...

Ever since she was shot in the head, Nancy Botwin has been trying to change her life. No longer content to be living a dangerous life in the drug trade, the Weeds heroine is now trying to be the thing that she's been running from for seven years: normal. Nancy may have gotten into the drug business under financial pretenses, but a part of the allure came from the danger, the spontaneity that living in a little box couldn't provide. Now, all she wants is a quiet existence in which she raises her kids and finds the type of personal fulfillment that has eluded her for so long. But this being Nancy Botwin, mistakes have been made and poor decisions have been aplenty. The former drug maven can't quite escape her past and on the next episode of Weeds , she looks to the other people in her life to help with the transition. It turns out that the pool that Nancy's been occupying for the last episode or two belongs to the Rabbi from the premiere, who imparts a little advice about new beginnings and the value of making different choices and getting different results. It's a valuable thing for Nancy to hear and something that she'll have to take to heart if she truly does want to get out of the line of fire once and for all. Read More... //
