Weird Loners Season 1 Episode 6 Review: We're Here. We're Weird. Get Used To Us

Stosh and Caryn have been dancing around a hook-up for a while, and the not especially anticipated moment has come. On the season finale, Katie Aselton ( The League ) guest stars as April, Zaras bisexual dart partner and one-time love interest. She becomes a sexually-charged catalyst for Stosh and Caryn when she expresses interest in dating them both. I dont know how to feel about the premise of Weird Loners Season 1 Episode 6 . While there are some funny moments, its treatment of sexuality misses the mark in a big way.   Read More...   //

Weird Loners Season 1 Episode 5 Review: The Weirdfather

After a boozyDyngus Day celebration, Stosh is inspired to track down the son he's never met. While he will not be winning any "Father of the Year" awards, his interactions with 12-year-old Frank poke fun at sitcom family dynamics while also making reference to a classic scene from The Godfather . Meanwhile, although all of the characters have definitely come into their own over the last two episodes, Eric has shown the most potential and is quickly becoming the character to watch.   Read More...   //

Weird Loners Season 1 Episode 4 Review: Weird Knight

In the game of life, there are players and there are pawns. And how they work together or against each other can make or break the outcome of the game. On Weird Loners , up until this point, it has seemed like most of the action was split between two predominating pairs Stosh/Caryn and Eric/Zara. Setting up an ensemble cast in the first few episodes of a series can be a bit like musical chairs for character dynamics. Weird Loners Season 1 Episode 4 finally gave us the last (and most awkward) pairings: Stosh/Zara and Eric/Caryn.   Read More...   //

Weird Loners Season 1 Episode 3 Review: Weirded Out

One of the main areas where Weird Loners has been struggling is the character of Eric Lewandowski. In the first two episodes of the series, Eric's wide-eyed naivety was all-consuming a swing and a miss at laughs, since he wasnt in on the joke and it was a little bit like laughing at the kid in the school yard who has no friends and eats lunch by himself. Luckily, third time may be the charm because Weird Loners Season 1 Episode 3 gives Eric depth, urgency, and most importantly, the ability to make us laugh.   Read More...   //

Weird Loners Season 1 Episode 2 Review: Weird Dance

Watching adults sidestep confrontation and circumvent difficult situations with unnecessarily elaborate avoidance tactics is a sitcom staple and can be comedy gold. See almost every episode of Seinfeld ever. On Weird Loners Season 1 Episode 2 , Caryn goes to extreme measures to avoid disappointing her out-of-state Nana, while Zara helps Eric cope with his dads death, calling on a little help from beyond the grave. The plot may not quite hit the mark, but Weird Dance does expose the underlying problem of one of the series central characters, while it also shows signs of finding its footing as a critique of the oversaturated sitcom romance.   Read More... //

Weird Loners Season 1 Episode 1 Review: Weird Pilot

There is nothing I enjoy more than an off-beat comedy with strong characters and witty writing. New Girl comes to mind immediately, as does the prematurely canceled Happy Endings . Toss a handful of quirky singles into a communal living space and hijinks is bound to ensue. But for every show that has found success with this formula, there is more than one that has missed the mark. Weird Loners Season 1 Episode 1 introduces us to four single thirty-somethings who are still finding their way. While it has the potential to be a very funny show, there is something problematic in its singular angle. The characters are "weird" for reasons that paint them as one-dimensional stock characters, which leaves little room for growth. This may be corrected in future episodes, but only time will tell if the series (and its titular loners) will figure it out.   Read More... //
