Television Review: ‘Whitechapel’ on BBC America - Review

An awful lot of copycatting is going on in  "Whitechapel,"  a six-part crime series starting on BBC America on Wednesday night, and only some of it is by the killer being pursued. The show, taut and stylish, focuses on a rookie detective inspector named Joseph Chandler (Rupert Penry-Jones) who realizes that gruesome murders in the Whitechapel district of London mimic the  Jack the Ripper killings  of the 1880s: same dates, same area, same number of stab wounds. Poor Jack. So often have his crimes been recreated and otherwise invoked on television and in films that the guy probably wishes he had come forward, identified himself and trademarked his name and deeds.
