3rd Rock from the Sun is an American television sitcom that ran from 1996 until 2001. The show was about a "family" of four extraterrestrials who landed on Earth to observe human beings, while pretending (usually awkwardly) to be humans. The show broke ground by introducing predominantly European humour in its writing to a North American audience[citation needed] and was the first television show to create a 3D episode using advanced cinema techniques of the time
