They Might Be Giants are responsible for one of the all-time great A.V. Undercover episodes—a 2011 version of Chumbawamba’s “Tubthumping” recorded in our old round room, and featuring a backing chorus made up of A.V. Club employees and friends. (Their idea, by the way.) We coaxed them back with the promise of a bigger, less round room and a new list of songs. They settled on the 1999 Destiny’s Child hit “Bills, Bills, Bills,” a song that they weren’t terribly familiar with, but whose charms quickly won them over. They enjoyed playing the song so much that they’ve decided to make it part of their 2015 Dial-A-Song series, a revival of their old answering-machine concept updated for a glorious new age. There are many ways to hear this excellent song, but perhaps the most beneficial to you, the TMBG fan, is via a Dial-A-Song subscription, which allows for downloads in addition to streaming. (“Bills, Bills, Bills” will also be available via iTunes at some point in the not too distant future.) They Might Be Giants latest album is the excellent Glean.
