.38 Special had a string of hits in the early ’80s that still resonate on classic-rock radio today, with two songs in particular—“Caught Up In You” and “Hold On Loosely”—standing the test of time. That the band sounds like Lynyrd Skynyrd isn’t surprising, since .38 Special singer Donnie Van Zant is the brother of Ronnie and Johnny, former and current Skynyrd singers, respectively. .38 Special formed well before any of the young men in Howler were even born, and the Minneapolis band adds some youthful punk energy to “Hold On Loosely,” a song that gives surprisingly good advice for a shit-kicking jam.
