Model Whitney Thompson Urges Ad Companies to Stop Digitally Manipulating Models

Whitney Thompson, Cycle 10 winner of America's Next Top Model (the first plus-size one ever!) and a model for Wilhelmina, shares her thoughts on Make Up Forever's new "first unretouched" makeup ad. At this point most people are aware of the heinous retouching that occurs in every advertisement that we see, and if you aren't, then here's your wake up call. The fashion industry will put a model in a bikini and if her breasts are "too small" they Photoshop some new ones in. If her hips are "too wide," they Photoshop them out (instant lipo!). Heck, if they couldn’t book the model that they originally wanted, they might even shop on a whole new face. I have been saying for years that these advertising/marketing tricks are mean and unnecessary. How are we supposed to feel about ourselves when the standard is being set at someone else’s definition of perfection?    Read More... //www.wetpaint.com/americas-next-top-model/articles/exclusive-model-whitney-thompson-urges-ad-companies-to-stop-digitally-manipulating-models

ANTM's Whitney Thompson Used to Run Until She Literally Vomited

Contrary to model stereotypes, Whit is now a spokeswoman to raise awareness about healthy self-esteem and eating habits and has been visiting colleges to speak about her experience with weight issues. Exclusive! Whitney Thompson Says ANTM Cycle 16 Premiere Prank "Not Cool"

During each season so far, 40 girls are initially cast, but only 13-14 are ever chosen to move into the Top Model house. Cycle 10's Whitney Thompson Named Model Spokesperson for National Eating Disorders Association

It looks like being Tyra Banks' choice as winner for America's Next Top Model Cycle 10 has catapulted Whitney Thompson further. After being named one of 2008's Most Influential Women by MSNBC, it looks like she has another title to her credit. She has recently become an official ambassador for the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA). Helping fight the battle against eating disorders, Whitney Thompson was pleased to be part of the campaign. "I am thrilled to be an ambassador for the National Eating Disorders Association," she exclaimed. Another aspect of being a spokesperson for the organization is to aid in debunking unrealistic social ideals, which give off the impression that one needs to have a "perfect" body to get by. America's Next Top Model winner Whitney has been dealing with that throughout her career, so it's only fitting she join the crusade. "Since winning Top Model, I have heard from thousands of people all over the world who are dealing with eating disorders," she said. "I want to support those people affected and their families and I want to help people identify and resist the social stereotypes and images that lead to unhealthy behavioral patterns." Even the CEO of NEDA, Lynn Grefe, felt that the model's participation and support will truly benefit the organization. "We welcome the enthusiasm and energy of Whitney to our cause and the ability of her celebrity to bring a spotlight to a very serious and deadly subject," she announced. "It is a particular concern within the modeling and fashion industries and the support of Whitney and our other ambassadors are key to changing the way people think about body image." Several supermodels and celebrities have already preceded Whitney Thompson as NEDA ambassadors. But the announcement of this Top Model winner joining them arrived in order to promote the observance of the 23rd annual National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. She'll be going around college campuses for motivational speeches, starting off on February 21 and ending on the 27th. Source Here
