As Community Contemplates a Season 6 Renewal, Talk of a Movie Grows

Will "six seasons and a movie" come to fruition? As NBC mulls the fate of the Greendale gang, the Community clarion call — first uttered as a joke by Abed ( Danny Pudi ) in a Season 2 episode — may be moving closer to reality. According to insiders, at least one director has already been considered to helm the inevitable Community feature: Justin Lin , who directed the last four movies in the Fast & Furious franchise. Lin has also directed several episodes of Community.       //

'Community' Season 5, episode 11 gets animated for 'G.I. Jeff'

"Community" is no stranger to animation. Prior to Season 5's "G.I. Jeff" (airing Thursday, April 3), the bizarre comedy had already aired two mainly animated episodes: "Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas" (stop-motion) and "Digital Estate Planning" (8-bit computer graphics). For the Season 5 version of animation, however, episode 11 is taking the "G.I. Joe" route in tribute to the 1980s animated series. What's going on here? "This [episode] has a very specific story reason for it," executive producer Chris McKenna tells "I don't want to give too much away, but our characters find themselves in a 'Wizard of Oz'-type journey through the world of 'G.I. Joe' ... There's a mystery that Jeff in particular has to get to the bottom of."Considering that Jeff Winger would have been about the right age to enjoy "G.I. Joe" cartoons back in the day, that does make sense.Exactly how much "G.I. Joe" will make it into "G.I. Jeff"? "We do a typical... //

'Community' Season 5, episode 10: 'Advanced Advanced Dungeons and Dragons,' the sequel

As Abed himself says right at the beginning of the "Community" episode, "Advanced Advanced Dungeons and Dragons," it's hard to create a worthy follow-up to greatness. And like so many sequels before it, "Advanced Advanced Dungeons and Dragons" fails to capture the excitement and heart of the original. What brings out the dice this time?Professor Hickey is grouchy (more so than usual) because his son, Hank, hasn't invited him to his grandson's birthday. It seems that there is bad blood between these two, mostly because they just don't get each other. But when Hickey mentions that Hank likes to play Dungeons & Dragons, the study group knows it's time to spring into action. After all, didn't they save Fat Neil from suicide with the first game? Or is that up for debate?Whatever the case, Hank (played by "Arrested Development" actor David Cross) agrees to hang out at Annie and Abed's apartment for a game. Unfortunately... //

TV ratings: 'Big Bang Theory' tops night, 'American Idol' down in time slot change

Though it was down from its 17.9 million viewers (10.7/18) the week before, it still was by far the most-watched program of the night. The series continues to be a great lead-in for "The Millers," which was the second-most watched program of the night. Also performing well was "Scandal" (down from last week, but still winning the coveted 18-49 demographic in its timeslot). Meanwhile, "Once Upon A Time in Wonderland," "Parks and Recreation" and "Reign" held steady from the previous week, and "Community" eked out a slight increase in viewers and ratings."American Idol"continued its dip in ratings from earlier this week when the results show moved from the 8 p.m. hour to 9 p.m. Though it still topped its competitors, it was down from... //

'Community' Season 6: Dan Harmon is comfortable in 'eternal limbo'

"Community" was never supposed to last this long. Despite the eternal fan rallying cry of "six seasons and a movie," few thought that that goal was actually a possibility. Now, however, "Community" Season 6 is close to happening -- but is hardly a sure thing.Show creator Dan Harmon is OK with that. He is used to uncertainty when it comes to his comedy.During a Reddit AMA mostly focusing on Harmon's other project, animated series "Rick and Morty," the writer took a moment to answer a "Community"-oriented question about the possibility of another year after the current Season 5 ends."You can count on any news about 'Community's' renewal happening out-of-the-blue and last minute in May or so. We have to start accepting at this point that God designed 'Community' to exist in eternal limbo, where every coin you drop lands on its edge and birds fly backward. I have become comfortable there. I set up... //

'Community' Season 5 episode 8: 5 MeowMeowBeenz for 'App Development and Condiments'

"Community" is never better than when it takes little bits of society and morphs them into a hyper-realistic dystopia. MeowMeowBeenz and "App Development and Condiments" have proven that once again.Like the paintball and hot lava episodes before it, this episode may just be an instant classic. It's totally worthy of at least 5 MeowMeowBeenz.MeowMeowBeenz? Really, 'Community'?Scoff at the silliness of the MeowMeowBeenz app all you want. But you totally know that if something like this actually entered into society, we would all stratify into numbers within days. Sure, the real world might not have futuristic dances for the 5s and togas for the 4s, but people love classifying each other.MeowMeowBeenz just makes it easier. Why Greendale should never have any school-wide events everFor no real reason, Dean Pelton introduces Greendale to the MeowMeowBeenz app. The oh-so-not-charismatic developers want it to be a way to introduce anonymous ranking of people. Those who rank higher carry more... //
