Tonight's TV Hot List: Monday, Dec. 14, 2009

* The Sing-off (8/7c NBC) Eight a cappella groups from around the country assemble to kick off NBC's four-night singing competition. The groups don't use backing bands or tracks but instead use their voices to create a rich and full sound. On hand to critique the performances are celeb judges Ben Folds, Shawn Stockman (of Boyz II Men) and Nicole Scherzinger. But viewers have the ultimate say in who advances as they cast votes for their favorite groups. The winner receives a recording contract and a $100,000 prize. * Jennifer Hudson: I'll Be Home for Christmas (8/7c ABC) Jennifer Hudson, the American Idol finalist who vaulted to stardom as an Oscar and Golden Globe winner in the 2006 hit film Dreamgirls, returns home to Chicago to celebrate the joys of Christmas. Hudson performs "The Christmas Song," "O Holy Night" and "Silent Night." She is also joined by fellow Grammy winner Michael Bublé on seasonal favorites "Baby It's Cold Outside" and "Let It Snow." * Two and a Half Men (9/8c CBS) Carl Reiner has pushed himself to do just about everything in the entertainment industry, but he won't have to make a great leap or work too hard for his role in this episode, playing a legendary TV producer whom Evelyn invites to Charlie's for Christmas dinner. Meanwhile, Jake's girlfriend is away for the holidays, so Charlie teaches Jake the one thing he knows well: the art of infidelity. * CSI: Miami (10/9c CBS) Eric Delko (Adam Rodriguez) is no longer a CSI, but tonight he returns to the courtroom. Unfortunately, he's not there to help out his former colleagues. Instead, he appears as an expert witness hired by the defense to help free a suspect nabbed by Horatio. And to make the situation even more uncomfortable, Eric scrutinizes Calleigh's evidence-gathering abilities. We guess this means the two former lovers won't be getting back together again anytime soon. * Anatomy of a Pandemic (9/8c PBS) As pandemics go, the outbreak of the H1N1 flu has, thankfully, thus far been something of a dud, far less of a threat than the influenzas of 1957 and 1968 let alone 1918, when an estimated 50 million people died worldwide. In this report, Ray Suarez details how the U.S. and world governments have been fighting H1N1 and compares this pandemic to past influenza outbreaks. He also looks at the 1976 swine-flu scare and the ill-fated, government-mandated vaccine program that did more harm than good. * Vampire Diaries (8/7c The CW ) For fans who may have missed an episode or two, or for folks who haven't yet tuned in, the CW is allowing viewers to sink their teeth into its bloody hit series this week by reairing all 10 of its fall episodes, two back-to-back per evening. Of course, for devotees who have already savored these 10 hours, it's a great opportunity to relive the romance and the horror that are its hallmarks. In tonight's pilot, Stefan (Paul Wesley), a 161-year-old vampire who doesn't look a day over 19 and refuses to drink human blood, returns to his Virginia hometown to pursue a high-school student (Nina Dobrev) who reminds him of a long-lost love. Anthony Michael Hall Snags 'CSI: Miami' Guest Role

Former The Dead Zone star--and recently controversial, I must add--Anthony Michael Hall is returning to prime time via a guest role in an episode of CSI: Miami, which is expected to air next year. The episode, which starts production this week, sees Hall play a charismatic emergency room doctor who has since gone down the path of crime, and is now a convicted killer. The role marks Hall's return to prime time, after five years on the USA Network's drama series, and recently, a guest role on NBC's Community. He also recently appeared on The Dark Knight. However, Hall recently hit the headlines after an altercation with his ex-girlfriend, who claimed that he hurt her. However, no charges were filed. Source Here

Tonight's TV Hot List: Monday, Dec. 7, 2009 - Featured

* Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special (8/7c Fox) Multiplatinum country singer - and onetime American Idol winner - Carrie Underwood makes merry on this holiday hootenanny, performing songs from her latest album, Play On, plus past favorites and seasonal classics. Joining in on the fun are fellow country stars Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton, Christina Applegate, Kristin Chenoweth and Sons of Sylvia, the country trio that backs Underwood on the Play On song "What Can I Say." * Men of a Certain Age (10/9c TNT ) Sharp performances and quick-witted ruminations on life and aging drive this likable dramedy about three longtime male friends. The pilot episode introduces the guys, best buds since college and now bonded in their efforts to pass through midlife challenges. The fortysomething trio include bighearted but somewhat maladjusted party-store owner Joe Tranelli (creator, writer and executive producer Ray Romano), who's struggling through a gambling problem and a crumbled marriage; Terry Elliot (Scott Bakula), a womanizing part-time actor whose glory days seem to be behind him; and pressured family man Owen Thoreau (Andre Braugher), who unhappily slogs through the 9-to-5 paces at his oppressive father's car dealership. * The Closer (9/8c TNT ) It's prime time for crime when the cop series jumps back into its fifth season with a winter arc of new episodes. Southern belle Brenda Leigh Johnson goes like gangbusters to bust a gang. The case begins with a gang-related shooting and the resultant death of a 12-year-old boy, but the investigation really heats up when two more bodies surface. In domestic developments, Brenda is in store for a big surprise, thanks to Fritz. And Provenza's once-blooming love life now begins to wilt. * CSI: Miami (10/9c CBS) Some people just don't want to stand up and be counted. That's especially true with folks involved in illegal activities, as is the case tonight when a census worker is murdered. The death and investigation lead to a high-speed car chase, an explosion and life-threatening situations for Ryan and Natalia. Count us in! * How I Met Your Mother (8/7c CBS) Viewers have become accustomed to accepting the fact that each new love interest for Ted probably won't get them any closer to knowing how he met the mother of his children. The prolonging of the mystery is tied to the continuation of the sitcom. But what if Ted is convinced he knows the perfect woman? This idolized object of his affection, played by JoAnna Garcia, suddenly becomes available to date, but he needs some help from his friends. Meanwhile, Marshall has an epiphany when he discovers a letter he wrote when he was young. Source Here
