Death Comes to Pemberley Reviews & Ratings

60 minutes

Adaptation of PD James's bestselling homage to Pride and Prejudice. Elizabeth and Darcy, now six years married and with two young sons, are preparing for the lavish annual ball at their magnificent Pemberley home. The unannounced arrival of Elizabeth's wayward sister Lydia, however, brings an abrupt and shocking halt to proceedings when she stumbles out of her chaise screaming that her husband Wickham has been murdered.

Fan fiction is always a hit and miss. This is a definite hit. The casting is perfect and all characters have kept their magic from the original Pride and Prejudice but with a few years extra experience. The execution and the setting is keeping true to the original story, which is a definite plus in my book. I can't just stick to watching this once.

I enjoyed this so much, even though I'm not that much of a fan of people constantly trying to come up with a new 'Jane' story. That said, the late P.D. James wrote another exceptional story in a career chock full of them. It's wonderful, the cast, the house, the intrigue, a really good show, imo. : )

This is a really beautiful miniseries. The characters still feel like Austen characters, the mystery is interesting and the acting really good. It was really just enjoyable to be able to spend a few hours in the company of these characters.

Death Comes to Pemberley is one of those shows that you wish there were more episodes because its so damn good but your glad there is not because it would run the all over flow. I loved this mini show. It mixed the novel and the new seamlessly.

It is not on the level of Jane Austen, it may even be quite a few levels below J.A., but if you like books and tv shows of that era, give this one a try. You will not be utterly disappointed, it might even turn out to be quite a delight.

Loved this short little series. It would be great if there were more like it.

I'm always sceptical about Austen adaptions (I've been burned by Lost in Austen) but they managed to make a murder mystery /fit/ into this story and that speaks volumes about this show's execution. The casting is perfection, everything looks beautiful, and - the most amazing feat - this made me like Lydia and root for the Lydia/Wickham pairing.
I stiill love to rewatch this. Yes, it's fanfiction - but really good one.

Brilliant adaptation of what might happen after the end of Pride and Preduce. Really enjoyed this.

I love anything to do with Jane Austin, this was good, but I wont probably watch it again.
