In this character-driven medical drama told from the nurses' point of view, Jada Pinkett Smith stars as Christina Hawthorne, the forceful-yet-caring director of nursing at Richmond Trinity Hospital. When a patient's care is at risk, she will not hesitate to violate hospital protocol, defend her staff against egotistical doctors or firmly stand up to apathetic administrators who seem to have forgotten a hospital's true purpose. Recently widowed, she also has to take on her equally important role as a mother to a willful, rebellious teenage daughter.

Like so many medical/hospital dramas this show started out really great. I'm actually glad that it only lasted 3 seasons. Why do they constantly make all the drama about the doctors/nurses? Why can't we just focus on the patients for once? I'd much rather watch a show about the issues facing patients having to face difficult decisions than watch a show about who's sleeping with whom or a character thinking they're above the law/protocols and not really being reprimanded for their actions like they would be if it were the real world. This show had so much promise but just never delivered...instead in faded into a pool of mediocrity - focused on a cheating wife, in place of a strong black woman. A real shame
