What's Hot Today

So, yeah, let's get it all out there: How I Met Your Mother's series finale stirred up a  massive  controversy when it aired this past Monday. Some people liked it, a lot of people hated it, and others just laughed it off. (I think my favorite reaction was from one of our commenters, who called the finale the "Red Wedding of sitcoms," based on the Twitter reaction.) Personally,  I fell into the "loved it" camp , although I understand I'm in a very small bracket. That said, looking at Season 9 as a whole, my opinion is largely with the masses -- that is, it was mostly a waste of time. How I Met Your Mother Series Finale Recap: Not-So-Happy Endings

Between How I Met Your Mother and The Good Wife , I’m only half joking when I propose that character deaths be covered by bereavement days. The difference between the two — for me, at least — is that while TGW surprised (blindsided?) fans with a devastating development that some would argue pulled apart the seams of the show, there was always a sound case to be made for the Mother’s death. Many commenters and critics anticipated it, and I’m not saying I wouldn’t have enjoyed a happier ending, but at the same time, it makes sense for Ted to be telling this story to his kids in the Mother’s absence. Of course, we can’t unpack that too much before we start asking why he then spends so much time on other women, especially Robin. At least creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas had the foresight to address that (sorta clumsily) via Penny. This was, in the end, the story of How Ted Got Over Robin — Only to Finally Get With Her Again.   Read More... //www.vulture.com/2014/04/how-i-met-your-mother-recap-series-finale.html

How I Met Your Mother Series Finale Review: 5 Big Shockers

First off, if you haven't watched the series finale of How I Met Your Mother,  STOP READING NOW.  Spoilers ahead!  Consider yourself warned.... There were plenty of surprises in "Last Forever," but most of all it taught us that almost nothing actually lasts forever.  How I Met Your Mother Season 9 Episode 23  opened with Ted saying goodbye to his friends as he planned to leave for Chicago.  Robin and Ted did their goofy salute. Marshall made jokes. Lily cried and got an ET goodbye that was just a little creepy and Ted and Barney did a high-five to echo throughout eternity.  All of it seemed a fitting end.    Read more:  //www.tvfanatic.com/2014/03/how-i-met-your-mother-series-finale-review-5-big-shockers/#ixzz2yD9CvoVL

How I Met Your Mother 9.23/9.24 Review: “Last Forever Parts 1 and 2?

The date is finally here. After watching Marshall (Jason Segel) slap Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) eight times, Robin (Cobie Smulders) shine as alter ego Robin Sparkles, and Ted (Josh Radnor) finally find his true love,  How I Met Your Mother    will conclude after nine amazing seasons. I am sure there will be some laughs, a few tears, and some legendary moments, so be sure to watch this episode entitled, “Last Forever Parts One and Two.” That is, if you haven’t already! I am not a very emotional person, unless it involves television. In the last year, I cried when the employees of Dunder Mifflin said their good-byes, when Booth and Bones got married on  Bones,  and while watching the aftermath of Will’s death on  The Good Wife.  This episode of  HIMYM  brought plenty of tears. Be sure you have a box of Kleenex next to you while you tune in. The episode begins with a flashback to 2005. The gang has just met Robin. Lily (Alyson Hannigan) is the most excited because all the group currently talks about is scotch and sports. Little does she know, but the dynamic won’t be changing all that much. Also, no one is allowed to hook up with Robin unless they marry her. Though Ted didn’t marry Robin, Barney did so at least one of them followed Lily’s rule. The scene then takes us back to the present where Ted first lays eyes on “The Mother” (Cristin Milioti). We are only two minutes in and I have already started crying. How I Met Your Mother Recap: Take a Vow

Robin’s pre-wedding jitters came as no surprise. “I can’t shake this feeling that nothing about me and Barney makes any sense.” We hear you. To Ted: “You always go big for me. Maybe I’m making a mistake. Maybe I should be marrying you.” And there it is at last.   If we’re tolerating Robin’s crisis, it’s in the spirit of understanding the complicated feeling of loving one person while believing somebody else might actually be the better partner. Her panic felt raw and believable. I’d never considered the significance of Barney’s initials before, or the less-favorable interpretation of legendary , but in her distress, Robin’s clearly conflating all sorts of issues. Cobie Smulders did such a good job of acting rattled that I think a true friend would have advised her to call the wedding off. Was Ted’s argument that love is the best thing we do particularly convincing? Were three deep breaths all it took?   Read More... //www.vulture.com/2014/03/how-i-met-your-mother-recap-season-9-robin-barney-ceremony.html

Now  that  was what I signed on for... To start, How I Met Your Mother has definitely had its highs and lows this season, but I have to say that I was genuinely excited for the series' closing episode "Last Forever." Kicking off "Part One" in 2005, just shortly after Robin joined the group, was an excellent way to begin the series finale, and it certainly set the tone for the rest of the hour-long episode, as it jettisoned through time leading up to 2030.
