Review of Marco Polo

60 minutes

In a world replete with greed, betrayal, sexual intrigue and rivalry, “Marco Polo” is based on the famed explorer’s adventures in Kublai Khan’s court in 13th century China. The show stars Italian newcomer Lorenzo Richelmy as 'Marco.' Best known for her role in The Wachowski’s "Cloud Atlas," the Beijing-born Zhu Zhu plays Marco’s love interest ‘Kokachin.’ Joan Chen ("Twin Peaks") and Benedict Wong ("Prometheus") also star in the show’s eclectic global cast as Empress Chabi and Kublai Khan.

Honestly this show was not what I expected. I was excited at the first episode when he decided to go to Mongolia. I thought Genghis Khan would appear but that's on me for not knowing history. After that he stays there for the longest of time as a squire, which is not really that interesting. They portrayed Genghis his grandson Kublai Khan which was portrayed stunningly. I loved learning about the Mongolian culture but Marco did not do it for me.
