An action thriller for fans of IRIS and ATHENA, Peninsula is one of the highest-budget series to air on Korean cable channels to date. Set somewhere in the future, North and South Korea are working hard towards unification. Suh Myung-Joon (played by revered film actor Hwang Jeong-min) is a scientist in charge of a joint project between the two countries as they search for a new source of energy. His affable but strict personality also helps keep the peace between the North and South Korean workers on this offshore base. Myung-Joon also finds himself falling in love with, Lim Jin-Jae (Kim Jung Eun), a fellow scientist with familial ties to the North Korean government. Jin-Jae is forced to choose between her loyalty to her country, and her love for Myung-Joon when she is tasked with stealing crucial information about the new energy source. When Myung-Joon eventually becomes the president of the newly-formed, unified country, he struggles with keeping the fragile peace. Opposers to the unification plot against him, and threats abound as individuals race to steal the country's energy resources for their own personal gain.
