TV Ratings: 'Supernatural,' 'Fringe' hit series lows opposite basketball

Fast National ratings for Friday, March 23, 2012 Please note that due to live broadcasts of the NCAA Tournament games on Friday night, the numbers for CBS will likely change significantly once ratings have been adjusted. Still, the NCAA Tournament games have once again won the night for CBS (though producing lower ratings than CBS' usual original fare) on a very soft Friday. Other content has held steady; the highly anticipated return of Misha Collins to The CW's "Supernatural" failed to boost ratings opposite the basketball -- in fact, both "Supernatural" and FOX's "Fringe" fell to series/season lows in the key demographic. CBS averaged 6.5 million viewers, with a 4.0 rating/7 share in households. ABC followed with 5.5 million viewers and a 3.7/6. NBC had a boost over last week at 4.4 million viewers, 3.0/5, with FOX at 2.9 million, 1.9/3. The CW trailed at 1.5 million, 1.0/2.In the 18-49 adults demographic, CBS won an... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/03/tv-ratings-supernatural-fringe-hit-series-lows-opposite-basketball.html

Supernatural Promo: Garth Returns and the Boys Go on a Crazy Hunt in Episode 7.18

Sam suffered from a complete breakdown in this week's episode of Supernatural.  After days of not sleeping because of Lucifer's constant meddling, he got hit by a car and ended up in a mental hospital after the doctors diagnosed his condition.  Dean set out to find a way to help his brother, which eventually led him to a healer that was supposed to be legitimate: a man named Emmanuel, who just so happened to look exactly like Castiel (guest star Misha Collins). In fact, it was Castiel, who walked out of the lake months ago and established a new life, complete with amnesia about his true identity and a wife.  He and Dean set off to help Sam, but a lot of demons decided to track Dean along the way.  He got into a spot of trouble until Meg joined in.  Together, they made their way to the hospital and, when they encountered some demon guards, Dean and Meg told Cas the truth about his identity.  He managed to reactivate his demon smiting powers, which jogged his memory. Supernatural Boss: It's "Weird" to See Castiel Back

Could Castiel have survived Leviathans' mass exodus of his body, leaving only a soggy trenchcoat behind? On Friday's episode of Supernatural (9/8c, The CW), Castiel has returned... but if he's intact remains to be seen. "He plays a substantial role in the episode," series executive producer Sera Gamble tells TVGuide.com, "but when he comes back, it's not in exactly the same state or state of mind when we last left him." //www.tvguide.com/News/Supernatural-Castiel-Return-1045195.aspx?rss=breakingnews

Misha Collins on his return to 'Supernatural': Castiel 'can tell that Dean's a dangerous guy'

Friday's "Supernatural" episode features the return of Misha Collins as Castiel -- well, sort of as Castiel. When Dean reunites with his buddy, Cas is calling himself Emanuel, is married to a nice lady named Daphne, and looks pretty comfortable in a sweater.Collins has played many "versions" of Castiel over the years, but "Emanuel" won't feel like a whole new character to fans who have missed their favorite rogue angel. "Honestly, it felt more like a hard reset than like a new version of the character," Collins tells us. "Like we were going back to Castiel at the beginning." He laughs. "I am revealing a lot to you. Maybe I shouldn't. I definitely felt like we were returning to ground that we had already tread on with Castiel."We'll learn that when Castiel ultimately emerged from the lake he was "drenched and confused and unclothed," with no memory of his life as an angel -- and,... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/03/misha-collins-on-his-return-to-supernatural-castiel-can-tell-that-deans-a-dangerous-guy.html

Supernatural Photos: DJ Qualls Returns in Episode 7.18

DJ Qualls first appeared earlier this season in the Supernatural episode "Season 7, Time for a Wedding!".  The episode itself may not have been a hit with the fans, but Qualls proved himself a fun guest star.  He'll be making a return appearance in the upcoming March 30 episode, titled "Party on, Garth". It sounds like we're in for a very amusing episode for Qualls' return.  Garth reaches out to the Winchester brothers for help with a case he's working on.  Only this is a creature they've never faced before.  They realize they're going up against a Japanese creature - a Shojo - who is summoned to seek revenge on enemies. The twist is that Shojos can only be seen when they're drunk. Who's the best drunk of them all?  Dean Winchester, of course!  Rumor has it this episode is hilarious.  I think the last time we saw Dean "funny drunk" (instead of "morose drunk") was season 4's "Yellow Fever", which was a treat.  Plus, here's a bonus for you...Dean gets to wield a pretty awesome looking sword! The only real question, of course, is how Sam manages to get himself out of the mental hospital he'll be checked into in the upcoming March 23 episode because of his Lucifer hallucinations.  Will the recently-returned Castiel be able to heal him, or will Dean find another way to save his brother? After this episode, Supernatural will go on hiatus for two weeks and then return on April 20, with five episodes in a row until the season finale on May 18. Use the arrows above to browse through photos for the March 30 episode of Supernatural, airing at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.  For more about the show, browse through our new Supernatural showpage . //feedproxy.google.com/~r/tvovermind/tvnews/~3/a8GsNNlzRr8/supernatural-photos-season-7-episode-18-party-on-garth

'Supernatural' clip: Sam gives up hope, but Dean is determined to save him

"Supernatural" fans have been anticipating this week's episode, "The Born-Again Identity," all season. Not only are Castiel and Meg returning after long absences, but the breakdown that we've been expecting from Sam since midway through Season 6 has finally come to pass.In this sneak-peek clip from Friday's episode, we get our first look at Sam after a complete mental meltdown. As we know from last week, he hasn't been sleeping -- and he doesn't take to the deprivation as well as he did when he didn't have a soul. One thing we can count on from "Supernatural" is that Sam and Dean will always do their best to save each other from whatever dire fate awaits them -- and this is no exception. "Sam, I'm going to find you help," Dean tells Sam, hopefully, when he visits him in the asylum. Sam isn't quite so convinced this time, though. With Lucifer cracking jokes in his... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/03/supernatural-clip-sam-gives-up-hope-but-dean-is-determined-to-save-him.html

Supernatural Sneak Peek: Sam's Prepared to Give Up, But Dean's Determined To Save Him

Supernatural return from its hiatus last week with an episode that showed us just how much Sam is suffering as a result of finally letting Lucifer in.  Since the devil is now a constant feature in Sam's head, even closing his eyes to sleep is torture, so Sam hasn't been resting at all.  This forced insomnia led to him nearly getting hit by a truck in last week's episode. Dean, unfortunately, doesn't know how serious Sam's condition really is, but he's about to find out.  All of Sam's problems finally come to a head in the March 23 episode of Supernatural, when the younger Winchesters is checked into a mental hospital.  Sam acknowledges that his entire situation may be helpless and, in typical Sam fashion, tells his brother that he's prepared to accept that and die.  But there's no way that Dean is going to just give him, not when Sam's life is on the line.  Much like the season 1 episode, "Faith" (although with the boys now in switched positions), Dean is determined to find a cure for his brother, and he reaches out to his remaining hunting contacts for help.  One of them tells him about a healer that is apparently legit.  But Dean is shocked when said healer turns out to be Castiel, who was last seen exploding into a pile of black goo in a pond.
