Dr. Blake returns to Australia after World War II. He takes over his deceased father's medical practice and becomes the Ballarat area police surgeon. While serving in the British Army as a medical officer he falls in love with and marries a Chinese woman and they have a daughter.

When Singapore falls, he looses them both. He finds his daughter, but her life has been rough as a mixed race child and she wants nothing to do with him. Later his wife turns up in Australia, but all is not as it seems. She's being used by others, but to what end? And where has she been and what has she suffered at the hands of others?

Ah, yes, I love this series and can't want for season 5! And season 5 will be the last. There will be a finale movie to tie up all the loose ends. Going out as Australia's number 1 drama. Will miss it, but glad it's getting a proper send off!

I discovered this series on BBC daytime TV. I didn't recognise Craig McLachlan at first as he looks so different from the neighbours actor I remembered. I was just taken in by the plot and excellent cast. The 50's backdrop is wonderful. If you like historical dramas, mysteries and a touch of romance, give it a try!

Great period drama, just loved it! Gutted that it's not going to be renewed when it finally looked like Jean was going to get her man :sigh: Craig McLachlan was fantastic in the role, bringing just the right amount of levity to the seriousness, and occasionally, outright belly-laughs. The bit where the police ask him to test a drug to find out what it is, and he does so by swallowing it was one of my favourite hilarious scenes. Well worth a binge watch if you want something relatively gentle, oddly sweet and innocent, yet still gritty and occasionally a little dark.
