An easygoing Cleveland Everyman seeks simple pleasures in the company of his oddball friends as he trades barbs with his nemesis, a plus-size coworker who applies makeup the way Jackson Pollock applied paint. Along with the crew-cut star's ample charm, the sitcom's occasional dance numbers, parodies and animation helped make this one of ABC's more durable and creatively unpredictable shows.

The Drew Carey Show was a pretty classic example of your “everyman” sitcom, with a funnyman star who plays an average, unexceptional guy surrounded by a gaggle of goofy friends, a nemesis (the frightful Mimi) and a love interest who is three or four notches more attractive than he is (Christa Miller).

Every part is played pitch perfect and it has good, plausible story lines. The show had the guts to center around a group of characters that were, without question, losers and made no attempt to glamorize them in the usual sitcom way. The cast was exceptional. The writing was sharp, bawdy, crude and was often bust-a-gut hysterically so. The chemistry of all the cast members is awesome, and every one of them is so lovable. This show is very funny. The plot lines are always interesting. The show fairly accurately portrays the plight of the normal, everyday guy who's trying to find both love and success in today's world. Plus, the show sometimes has some highly loony episode story lines and crazy sight-gags that are normally only seen in movies! I would highly recommend this TV series to any serious comedy buff!
