The whimsy of 'The Good Place' comes close to perfection: EW review

Remember when we thought Lost was about dead people in a bizarre limbo working out their redemption? Reboot the idea as a fantastically funny sitcom and you get NBCs The Good Place , a heady yet big-laughs comedy about the folly of phoniness, judgment, and perfection. Its a new...   ...Read More... //

'The Good Place' Review: Kristen Bell and Ted Danson Are Comedic Gold

The next project from successful showrunner Mike Schur ( The Office , Parks and Recreation , Brooklyn Nine-Nine ) is here, and it's not like anything you've seen before. In one of the more original new series of Fall 2016, The Good Place veers away from Schur's typical (and hugely successful) workplace comedies and tackles the afterlife. But can a show touch on a subject like this, find good ways to handle issues like religion and morality, and still manage to stay funny? Find out if The Good Place is worth visiting. ...   Read More... //

Ms. Bell plays a new arrival to a heaven-like domain who should actually be somewhere a bit warmer in this new NBC sitcom. ...  Read More... //

The Good Place Review: Kristen Bell Goes to Heaven and Finds Ted Danson

If NBCs bold and blithe new sitcom The Good Place is to be believed, its hard to get into heaven unless youre an interloper with a good heart. That distinction goes to Kristen Bell s leading character Eleanor, a wickedly selfish woman who wasnt so nice on earth but through some sort of glitch, gets into eternal paradise and struggles mightily to stay put. Ted Danson also stars and plays Michael, Eleanors afterlife advisor and the architect behind this particular portion of heaven. Described as a neighborhood, this heaven is filled with humanitarians, frozen yogurt shops and soulmates. Eleanors soulmate is a former ethics professor and all-around good guy named Chidi (William Jackson Harper), who likes Eleanor until he discovers that shes really not supposed to be in the good place.  Read More... //

The Good Place Is Unlike Any Network Comedy You've Ever Seen

The Good Place is a sitcom in the sense that it's a half-hour long and it's funny -- some of the jokes are even delivered by Ted Danson , whom series creator and executive producer Mike Schur considers to be the greatest sitcom actor ever. But beyond that, it's not like any other network sitcom ...Read More... //

Son Of Zorn & The Good Place Review: Fox Comedy Worth Going To, NBCs Not So Much

The new season of the NFL kicked off last night on NBC, which means a plethora of new dramas and comedies are about to launch on the Big 4. Early out of the gate will be Son Of Zorn , which previews September 11 after the NFL doubleheader on Fox, and The Good Place , which previews with two episodes September 19 on NBC with a primolaunch pad right after the Season 11 premiere of The Voice . The Good Place Review: Kristen Bell's New Comedy Is Almost Heaven

What happens when we die? Its a big, complicated question that doesnt really lend itself to a jokey sitcom. But NBCs breezy new comedy The Good Place(previewing Monday, Sept. 19 at 10/9c, before calling Thursdays at 8:30 home) manages to tackle thorny issues like morality and religion while still delivering the most laughs of any [] //

The Good Place - "Pilot" Review

Michael Schur -- co-creator of Parks and Rec and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and a writer on the US The Office -- returns to NBC this fall with The Good Place. As a whimsically bureaucratic look at the afterlife, The Good Place might easily remind you of Albert Brooks' Defending Your Life or the dark laughs of Beetlejuice, but it's still able to stand on its own as a slice of unique, fun TV. But, while leads Kristen Bell and Ted Danson delight, the rest of the ensemble needs work. And that's what, I suppose, reminds me of Parks ad Rec here, despite the two shows sharing very little in common from a story standpoint. The rest of the players need to get fleshed out and - well - made funny, because right now Bell and Danson, and the quirky premise, carry the weight. However, I'm not too worried since, as of the pilot, only William Jackson Harper's Chidi and Jameela Jamil's Tahani make up the supporting players and Schur shows don't usually roll with only four characters. So it stands to reason that more characters will soon join the story and that everyone will eventually hone in on their comedic voice. READ MORE...
