San Diego Comic-Con: The Man In The High Castle’s Rupert Evans & DJ Qualls Preview Season 2

First thing’s first, the stuff that everyone wants to know, what’s coming up in Season 2. DJ Qualls told us that his Ed’s minimal existence no longer works. "Fissures are forming," Qualls said. "that pushes us all further away from each other." Ed’s friendship with Frank creates some additional issues for him, as we have already seen the beginnings of in Season 1. "As I go along with him, I start to resent him," Qualls told us. Though the Frank and Ed relationship appears to be instrumental to both characters in the coming season. The friendship for Frank and Ed is "based on time", but "the circumstances around that relationship change, and that’s what we see in Season 2," said Qualls. READ MORE...

San Diego Comic-Con: The Man In The High Castle’s Alexa Davalos On “Exciting”, “Surprising” Season 2

Davalos was a big fan of Season 1, but how the next season differs is fairly simple. Davalos says that "it’s really kind of broadened a level". While Season 1 focused on building the world and establishing the rules, Season 2 goes deeper with the characters and story to make everything fuller and richer. Asked about her character’s journey, Davalos was mum about all things Juliana. "Juliana is in a place that I certainly can’t discuss because it will just ruin everything." Hey, at least she’s looking out for the viewers and their experience, am I right? You can’t say that about every star. READ MORE...

San Diego Comic-Con: Man In The High Castle Stars Luke Kleintank, Bella Heathcote Talk New Character, Preview Season Two

Bella Heathcote plays a new character named Nicole. When asked about joining up and working on the show, she said "it’s wild". It sounds like she’s enjoying her time! Heathcote is playing Nicole Becker, a documentary filmmaker who’s passionate about the environment. She described Nicole as "very privileged, very wealthy", which certainly affects her frame of reference as a filmmaker. "She loves to party and she loves to flirt and she really likes to look at Joe Blake." (to which Kleintank chimed in "who wouldn’t?!"). Heathcote indicated that Nicole is part of a generation that wasn’t involved in the war, which makes her part of a "new generation" of Nazis. Her generation is more concerned about the environment than Nazi ideals, which is an interesting direction to take things. READ MORE...

San Diego Comic-Con: The Man In The High Castle’s Rufus Sewell Talks Season 2, Smith’s Conflict

The conversation with the press at the round table began with a joke about talking to the press and all the vague answers we get. So when he was asked what Season 2 would be like, Sewell joked that it’s "really good." Rather than just tell us that his character goes on "a journey", Sewell indicates that Smith is really on two journeys, his "external journey" and his "internal journey". Most of Smith’s conflict stems from his love for his son, and that being contradicted by his involvement with the Nazis. He’s doing quite well in his career, and "The Fuhrer" is pleased with him, but the cause that he’s pledged his life to is "under attack from the inside because of his son", Sewell said, making the conflict within dangerous for Smith, and his loved ones. His doubts, which definitely exist, he continued, will be "stoked" in Season 2. READ MORE...

San Diego Comic-Con: Man in the High Castle EP Dan Percival Talks Show’s Thematic Elements, Previews Season 2

Last week at San Diego Comic-Con, I had the opportunity to visit several press rooms to talk with the casts and crew of some of my favorite shows. At the press room for Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle, Executive Dan Percival sat down with us to talk about some of the show’s thematic elements, how it relates to today, and give us a preview for Season 2. Relevant Today? Everyone knows that at the same time as San Diego Comic-Con took place in San Diego, the Republican National Convention was taking place in Cleveland. I won’t take this platform in a political direction, but I will say that in today’s climate, a show about living in Nazi and Japanese controlled United States has never been more relevant.
