'The Newsroom's' Emily Mortimer prefers dolls over Legos

Zap2it: How did you prepare for "The Newsroom" role as a producer in cable news?Emily Mortimer: I went for a morning at CNN here [in New York] and saw many shows get done. I sat in the control room. I went with our wonderful costume designer, Albert, who set the look. I went with him and said, 'Albert we are talking about these pencil skirts and nipped-in jackets.' I looked at this girl doing my job, and she's in jeans and a T-shirt. She's a normal person, but [my character] isn't, and he said, 'You are going to wear the pencil skirt and nipped-in jackets.' My friend, Shaminder Nahal, does exactly this job in England.Zap2it: What do you like to do with your kids?Emily Mortimer: With my 8-year-old boy, it is very hard to try to pretend to be interested in games where you have to do Legos. Olivia Munn: Lay Off 'The Newsroom' & Aaron Sorkin

Olivia Munn thinks " The Newsroom " (Sundays at 1- p.m. ET on HBO) deserves a break. A great deal of criticism has been thrown Aaron Sorkin's way since the premiere of his new HBO series, especially in regards to his portrayal of women. While HuffPost's Maureen Ryan has said too many scenes "involve men setting women straight, men supervising women, a man teaching a woman how to use email," Munn -- who plays Sloan Sabbith on "The Newsroom" -- assures Sorkin is only building on the personalities of the actresses. "If you get bothered by the freak-outs, I can tell you that if you know these women, they come from a place of truth," Munn said in an interview with Vulture . "Alison [Pill] is one of the most genuine, excited, genuinely excited people you will ever meet. In the middle of a live set, she’ll be screaming about hockey. She’s Canadian and she’s like, 'Go Canada!' And then you have Emily [Mortimer], who’s got two small children and has this crazy great energy. She never seems tired, she lifts you up." What about the overall criticism of "The Newsroom" and its portrayal of journalism? Munn said: "Sorkin loves journalists, loves the media, loves the news," she told Vulture. "I don’t believe the show is his soapbox for him to lecture the media on how to be better. On the contrary, I believe his show is an opportunity to help the audience fall in love with the news again. I felt bad for Aaron." For more on Munn, click over to Vulture. "The Newsroom" airs on Sundays at 10 p.m. on HBO. //

The Newsroom Sneak Peek: Will Makes a Vow and Jane Fonda Makes Her First Appearance

After making a vow to change the way they present the news in the pilot of The Newsroom , the News Night team got bogged down last week in some inter-office drama between Will and Mac when the story of their breakup was accidentally sent out to the whole company.  And the team's first opportunity to revamp their program led to a few mix-ups by staff and a pretty disastrous (though, ultimately, hilarious) segment on immigration. Here's what's in store for tonight's all new episode of The Newsroom , which introduces Jane Fonda to the cast in a recurring role: "In an on-air editorial, Will apologizes for past newscasts and promises a new era of integrity for "News Night." Will’s new approach rankles Leona Lansing, CEO of ACN’s parent company Atlantis World Media, who warns Charlie that Will’s stance will not be tolerated. Jim soothes Maggie during a panic attack; Don charges Elliot to get in the game; Will parades a string of arm-candy dates in front of Mac." Read More... //
