'The Simpsons': Steve Carell to join as Fat Tony's accountant

Steve Carell may have retired from "The Office," but that doesn't mean he's done with prime time comedy. The funny man has signed up to guest voice on an upcoming episode of "The Simpsons."EW is reporting that Carell will take on the role of Dan Gillick, the high-strung accountant who works for mobster Fat Tony (Joe Mantegna). Things will get tough for Gillick when he might have to run the mob while Fat Tony is on jury duty."He's nervous, and then Fat Tony says that he's got to kill some people and then he's really nervous because he actually wants to do it," says show EP Al Jean. "The line between Ivy League MBA and ruthless murderer is a very thin one." Dan, clearly not good at reading the tea leaves, seeks advice from Homer on what to do. The two meet initially while bowling. So Zappers, are you excited about this future episode?... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/12/the-simpsons-steve-carell-to-join-as-fat-tonys-accountant.html

'Simpsons' on the Jury for Peter and the Boys on 'Family Guy' (VIDEO)

After a fun cameo by 'King of the Hill' on 'The Simpsons' earlier in the night, 'Family Guy' (Sun., 9PM ET on FOX) went for a triple crossover. This time, though, it wasn't exclusively with Seth MacFarlane's other shows. Well, not entirely. In a rather blatant attempt to remind viewers about 'The Cleveland Show,' Cleveland and Donna both crossed over to Quahog, with Cleveland reuniting with the boys for a road trip adventure. The adventure itself saw them arrested under false charges and tried before a jury of their peers. "I don't think they see it that way," Joe said after the camera panned across a jury made up entirely of characters from 'The Simpsons.' It's a pretty accurate assessment of the two shows which may share a night and a network, but little else as the people behind making both shows don't seem to get along very well. //www.aoltv.com/2011/12/05/simpsons-on-the-jury-for-peter-and-the-boys-on-family-guy-v/

Joan Rivers Boots Janeane Garofalo for Being Too Funny on 'The Simpsons' (VIDEO)

It was a very meta episode of 'The Simpsons' (Sun., 8PM ET on FOX), as the opening minutes dealt directly -- or directly through talking about 'Itchy & Scratchy' -- with the dated references issues. Sure, they explained that it takes a long time to animate the series, but is explaining the technical reasons behind the problem supposed to make the audience simply accept it and be happy about it? The rest of the episode had a chance for some sharp satire, but as 'The Simpsons' tend to do, went for the soft approach. When Krusty the Clown's show got cancelled, he hooked back up with the talent agent who first scouted him, played by Joan Rivers. She first booked him on a live show a la Pee Wee Herman's recent broadway revival, and ultimately on HBOWTIME. //www.aoltv.com/2011/12/05/joan-rivers-boots-janeane-garofalo-the-simpsons-video/

TV ratings: 'Once Upon a Time' down some as NFL dominates Sunday

Fast national ratings for Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011NFL games -- both the scheduled contest on NBC's "Sunday Night Football" and an afternoon game that bled nearly an hour into primetime on CBS -- ruled Sunday night's ratings. "Once Upon a Time," meanwhile, declined some from previous episodes (though it still performed pretty well), and ABC's first Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, "Mitch Albom's Have a Little Faith," drew pretty meager ratings.NBC led the night with 14.2 million viewers and an 8.7 rating/13 share in households, beating out the 13.5 million viewers and 8.2/12 for CBS (numbers for both nets will change in the final nationals when the live NFL telecasts are accounted for). ABC (7.8 million, 4.6/7) finished third overall, while FOX -- which also had an NFL overrun in some markets -- delivered 5.3 million viewers and a 3.0/4.Thanks to "Sunday Night Football," NBC also led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 5.4 rating.... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/11/tv-ratings-once-upon-a-time-down-some-as-nfl-dominates-sunday.html

Marge Simpson Finds Herself Getting Seduced in 'Mad Men' Spoof (VIDEO)

In a spoof of 'Mad Men' so sharp, you'll swear it's 2008, Homer Simpsons took a job as an account man for the nuclear power plant on 'The Simpsons' (Sun., 8PM ET on FOX). While it was a charming enough episode, there were no stand-out moments of clever satire or unexpected twists. That said, we did enjoy the scene where Marge went to confront the man who held the job before Homer. Clearly a Roger Sterling type, we loved how during her conversation, she found herself suddenly sitting on his bed, and then standing outside the shower while he washed up. That's the 'Mad Men' seduction that washes over women so fast they don't even know what happened until it's too late. //www.aoltv.com/2011/11/28/marge-simpson-finds-herself-seduced-mad-men-spoof-video/

Neil Gaiman Wants in on the Teen Book Job on 'The Simpsons' (VIDEO)

It almost feels weird to say this, but in a very clever and entertaining episode of 'The Simpsons' (Sun., 8PM ET on FOX), Homer develops a plan to make a fortune by churning out a tween novel by committee. Popular fantasy author Neil Gaiman played himself, as an existing author wanting in on the scheme. The entire episode was framed as a heist, with Homer assembling his team, writing the novel and getting it published. The head of the publishing house was in place as the evil villain, while Gaiman proved to be the cleverest of them all, duping everyone by getting the book ultimately published under his own name. //www.aoltv.com/2011/11/21/neil-gaiman-wants-in-teen-book-job-the-simpsons-video/
