From Eric Kripke, Shawn Ryan and the producers of “The Blacklist” comes this thrilling action-adventure series in which a mysterious criminal steals a secret state-of-the-art time machine, intent on destroying America as we know it by changing the past. Our only hope is an unexpected team: a scientist, soldier and history professor who must use the machine’s prototype to travel back in time to critical events. While they must make every effort not to affect the past themselves, they must also stay one step ahead of this dangerous fugitive. Can this handpicked team uncover the mystery behind it all and end his destruction before it’s too late?
As a history buff, give me a show or movie using a time machine to go back to the past any day. After all, Timeline is one of my favourite movies (um hello, Gerard Butler! but the book was meh). Add conspiracy theories to the mix and I’m down. But I’m not done yet. The cast is pretty solid too. Goran Visnjic and Abigail Spencer have pretty spectacular resumes (or rather IMDB profiles), and Matt Lanter is working his way up since 90210 concluded. All that to say I was excited to watch the pilot.
The first 15-20 minutes were excruciating. It was far too rushed. Not enough, if any, background information. Next to no character development. But after those first few minutes, I temporarily forgot my disappointment. The rest of the episode was just fantastic. By the end I was excited to know more about the terrorist, the rest of the characters, and their next destinations.
Considering I would love more character development, plot development, history on the time they are visiting, and an additional challenge to overcome, I could see this as a movie. This 45-minute TV show could actually be stretched into a 90 to 120-minute movie. Not a great movie but a decent one and we all know I would watch it.
I’m going to continue to watch it for now, another two episodes at least. I hope we can get more out of the main characters. It’s hard to get invested when you are not connected to a character.
A surprising series about some people going back to the past to stop evil guys from undoing history. Like DC's League of Legends without the over-techy stuff and ten times more interesting. Hope it keeps this way.
