Fantastic series and great cast. Cillian Murphy plays the lead character Tommy Shelby superbly. He said that Britain successfully carried its upper class and gentry to televison but the working class was sort of overlooked. And this series mythologizes working class like Amerca does with series like Sons of Anarchy and the Sopranos.
Comparisions can be made between Peaky Blinders and Boardwalk Empire. The former probably owes its chance to be aired to latters success, although it was conceptualized before the others release. Even so I would say Peaky Blinders is much better. I liked Broadwalk Empire but eventually stopped watching it. This series makes me care about its characters and storyline a lot more.
I just watched the whole season in one go and it was amazing. It is dark and innocent, humorous and moving at the same time. At the beginning it was really twisted and funny but I wasn't expecting much emotion. By the end I was so invested in the characters that I was on the verge of tears. On a side note It's a graphic novel adaptation and I'm tempted to check out the source material.
