First of all, great topic choice. As I have only watched the first episode, I think it is not a bad way to translate addiction into teenage tv. While at first Maddie´s own problems seem not even that bad, I am looking forward to see, how they develop it. Since taking addiction to lightly is one problem with teen addiction, it may be a good way to go forward with the show. Showing that there are a lot of small things and that there is a lot going on outside of schoollife with your classmates that you wouldn´t think about. While a lof of teen shows struggle with some kind of substance abuse, most of the time there is one character fighting with it, but you never really see how. They just get sent somewhere to recover. This show at least goes one step further. So it should probably be careful not to make rehab into some kind of fun adventure like summer camp.
So the first episode showed no real surprises, but exactly what you would expect. But it did a good job with that. Superman, Supergirl, one knows the drill, but as it is a classic I wouldn´t demand to much unexpected development right at the beginning. I like that they chose to put a lot females in powerful positions. It may seem exaggerated, but since every other show is full of powerful men, why complain about this one exception. A superheroshow will have a lot more even more unbelievable stuff. :)
Cara herself was a really easy to get in maincharacter. I do hope to see some more developments in her and her environment, but for now I am content.
Cute and funny with some well placed criticism. I found it very relaxing and entertaining to watch.
The show continues to get better. It actually brought out some pretty dark developments and a surprisingly deep study of postapocalyptic humans. More than just some teenromance as it may have seemed sometimes through season one. War and with it a lot of difficult decisions are coming up.
edit: With the start of season 3 the show continues to steal my breath away. It keeps getting more interessting. There are new plots and characters introduced. Also the existing characters continue their development.
The show is one of those I watch mostly to relax. It is funny in a cute not dumb way and despite using a lot of stereotypes it introduces the characters behind as well. When I first started watching it for example I found Howard mostly disgusting, but with time he grew on me and the show managed to show more than one side to him.
The first episode shows a great start for the season. The show seems promising so far. Great actors, let´s see how it goes.
I like the idea of various supernaturals teaming up and the characters have some promise. However, the maincharacter and his flame as well as the rest of the cast are a bit too shallow. It seems a bit rushed. Still ok to watch.
Very difficult to review at this point. I like the genereal idea of the show, but I can´t really make up my mind about it. Please excuse this provisionally review, which I will update later.
While I understand the show is comedy and fun and try to differentiate from real life as a dog owner I cannot ignore Nan´s treatment of her animal companion. I understand that American culture towards taking care of dogs differs, but Martin´s current everyday life makes it difficult for me to sympathize with Nan. No matter the circumstances with a pet you get the responsibility of taking care of it.
But as we are only in the first episode, this image might be portrayed for a reason and I will give the show some more time to develop. There are some signs hinting that there might be some character development coming up. I sincerely hope so.
Every episode hits home. You start of thinking this time the antagonist is just too awful. You won´t get caught in his personal life story and there is no reason at all to take pity on him or her.
But then the show pulls you along once again and suddenly drama is everywhere.
I am acutally a bit afraid of the show, because it can be a real emotional roller coaster ride. It is sad, it is touching, it is empathic, it is exciting, it is real. Most of the time it seems so unnecessary and regretable, the choices of the antagonist are understandable, but are regretable. The story shows both sides and points out the consequences of events, actions and finally decisions.
Damn, I love it. But I need breaks in between, because it just gets to me.
Tom is a relatable character faced with an unexpected challenge. His way of owning up to that challenge and responsibility seems believable and is portrayed quite interesstingly.
The show itself tackles ropics like terrorism and racism in an open and daring way. Events and people mirror real life and thereby raise important questions. I recommend the show for this approach.
