Manhattan, named for the real-world Manhattan Project of World War II, follows the brilliant scientists who gathered in remote Los Alamos, N.M., in a race to develop the bomb before the enemy, with the world's fate thought to be hanging in the balance. During World War II, the Allies are seeking a way to shorten the conflict and build on the work of a group of scientists, under the direction of Professor Oppenheimer. Incommunicado in Los Alamos, New Mexico, scientists are working tirelessly. Frank Winter, underestimated by his peers, testing new hypotheses. Life on the military base is difficult for civilians, especially as the secret services suspect everyone to be a spy for the Nazis or Soviets. With some samples of plutonium, the research finally moving forward.
Excellent, extremely exciting, well-written and acted with flair--Manhattan is transportation back in time to the moment right before the Atom bomb. A picture of American idealism and paranoia, human error and scientific wet dreams. The teams of scientists and the flock of military MPs and support around the 1940s Los Alamos project have come back to life. Manhattan is filmed so that you can almost taste the dust--and want to back up because we all know what is coming. This show is cinematic in its scope, resonant, trying and captivating all at once.
This show is an overview of "The Manhattan Project", the race of nuclear warfare. Not only the race between USA and Germany but the race between groups from a single intellectual town within America. This historical period drama is well written, dressed and filmed. The story seems solid, intriguing and intelligently set. I recommend this show to the period drama fanatic.
Have just started this show and all I have to say it is amazing. Its not too slow, and very interesting. I hope the characters continue to face difficult social challenges while still confronting the task at hand (creating the atomic bomb).
Not totally close to the historical events, but an attempt to present did go on inside the people who eventually build the first atomic bombs.
I only hope they do not go there to justify the usage of the bombs to kill somewhere between 130.000 to 260.000 innocent civilians...because that was a war crime.
A really interesting look into the lives of the Men & Women who in the days of WW2 , try to beat the Germans to the creation of the Weapon the scientists developed and believed , foolishly , would end all War!
Great ensemble Cast and the show gives a great look back of a incredible development of Technology in the race that could ultimately lead to destroying ourselves! My favorite episode was the scientists eating magic mushrooms !!!
