The first episode took a full hour to say nothing. It stopped the moment it tried to get to the point. I guess that was to force you to watch more. I am not going to do that.
This was just something else with James Franco in it.
The tone is not consistent. She is having a comically bad date with a man who dumps her but she thinks he is going to propose. Then they show the corpse of a person who has hung herself. It can't just switch tones like that.
She is supposed to be such a good detective that she sees things other people don't, but she is stupid because she dated a married man for a year and didn't know till after he dumped her.
Everything that happens while investigating the crime mirrors the things that are going on in her life. She gets her personal feelings involved in the job because it relates to what she is currently feeling. She is actually a terrible police officer and only keeps her job because her partner covers for her.

Really good and fun to watch. I like the way they developed the characters and made you care about their stories. Great way to turn a movie into a tv show.
Edit: apparently I only like the firs season. :(
Too formulaic writing. We are getting divorced but are still going to live together! Only on a tv show would that happen.
Other things that would never happen outside this show:
The son texts his mom that his balls hurt.
The doctor tells the mom that the son needs to start masturbating.
The doctor tells the mom that she needs to facilitate the sons masturbating.
The couple hasn't had sex in 2 years but they sill think there might be a reason to get back together.
Mom thinks son should masturbate to Ruth Bader Ginsburg photos.
There is no resolution in the first episode and you have to keep watching to see what is going on. I don't like that. It's like they take it as a given you will watch all the episodes.

In the first episode, a space station is falling apart and everyone on it is about to die. Two people are just standing around watching everyone else get to the escape pods. They are not trying to escape at all. They are standing there saying, "Well we just fixed this escape pod so someone else can use it!"
Someone opens the escape pod and gets in then says, "Well you guys can get in too."
This show is just TOOOOOOO STUPIDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing is wrong, it just doesn't explain anything. It starts and then just keeps on going, giving you only as much as you need to know at the time. It creates the immediacy of being caught up in the story right with the character. That is not something I like. I would hate to think I have been wasting my time watching when for example, something in the next episode annoys me and I stop watching....
The show opens with a hostage negation scene that goes badly. The scene after that is the negotiators boss saying pretty much "Oh well some times it goes well, sometimes it doesn't. No worries."
How could anybody watch this? The first episode just went on and on and on and NEVER had any point to it. I just don't understand. I want a show to be about something or be interesting, but this is just a man walking around and having pointless conversations with people. Occasionally he gives a pointless lecture.
At the end of the episode a man asks him if he has a girlfriend and he says yes. Then the episode ends. What is the point of the show?
Why would I care to watch another episode?
Well, the second episode starts with a man looking for a roll of tape. Someone comes up to him and says "Sure I can give you some tape. Just give me the cardboard core of the old roll of tape first."
If you find that the type of thing that interests and entertains you, this is your show! Enjoy it.
