The Casual Vacancy

It is a slightly tamed down version of the book but still highly gripping and involving. It deals with very real issues (drug and child abuse) that happen in and around a small British town called Pagford but which are glossed over by the self-proclaimed and superficial "elite". This is not a fairy tale and certainly does not have a happy ending but you will relate with it all the same as we can all identify with these characters, having met them in our lives in one form or another. J.K. Rowling's mastery shines true once more and although it is not a carbon copy of the printed story, fans of her writing will love this show as well. I also loved the setting (picture-perfect), the acting (spot-on) and the choice of music. All in all a good solid show- ideal to watch over the weekend (after reading the book ;) ).

I'm not sure how I feel about this show. It is very creepy and the production team portrays this element very well throughout but at this point in time, I still feel quite confused as to where all this headed and there are still so many questions left unanswered. To be honest, I wasn't even mildly interested in keeping on watching it until the last half and hour or so. Hopefully, more will be explained if this show continues.

One of the classics and a TV staple for practically everyone growing up in the 90's. The story centers around the daily life of a group of lifeguards in California. Will obviously be remembered for its iconic theme song and protagonists David Hassellhoff and Pamela Anderson. Although a bit reluctant at first, I am curious to watch the remake coming out in the near future.

Another childhood favourite... In case you've been living under a rock all this time, the story revolves around a boy who travels the world and aspires to become a Pokemon trainer. Pokemon are creatures found in this particular universe which are a kind of substitute to animals. They come in different shapes, sizes, colours and kinds and all have some kind of power depending on the type. You'll love it if you like Japanese animation.

Fear the Walking Dead

At first I was a bit fearful that this show would just be a mirror copy of The Walking Dead. Also, I would have preferred a European setting rather than another American one. Nevertheless, it is pretty good and very interesting to see how it all started and the people's first reactions to the virus. 2 episodes in and I am already counting the days till the next one. Let's hope it keeps my level of interest and curiosity high!

It is not really the best of its kind when it comes to acting and special effects however it is worth a watch if you are looking to kill some time and you are into these kind of space/apocalyptic shows and movies.

Angel

If you loved Buffy the vampire slayer, you will love Angel as both shows go hand in hand and follow the same lines (more or less). This spin-off follows Angel's life in Los Angeles after he left Buffy and the rest of the crew in Sunnydale. I especially love the way it is directed and produced including a bit of everything like fantasy, drama, action and humour. Definitely worth a watch!

Ancient Aliens

Raises some really interesting questions but has failed to capture my attention beyond a couple of episodes as I found it quite repetitive. Still worth a try if you like documentaries based on aliens and history.

Very well-written anime... will keep you guessing till the very end. It mixes the supernatural with crime and detective work. Loved it!

I was obsessed about this show when I was little.. used to watch it every day without fail. Give it a try if you're into these kind of Japanese animation, superheroes and a bit of astrology thrown in the mix. Love it!
