The Last Tycoon is a period drama that follows the movie business in the mid 1930's. The show defines the politics that develop in this pre-war era with Germany and struggles of the depression. This particular drama is quite slow but develops into a nicely drawn picture of grace and lust. The cast fits their roles perfectly and the script is decent but at some times dry. I still recommend this series to the period drama fanatic.
Mrs. Browns Boys is a live sitcom that its pretty damn funny. The scenes are acted well, the cast has good chemistry and the actors are not afraid to improvise. The writing is quite witty and main character is bloody brilliant. Other than being a comedy, this television show explains many of life's hardships and many of life's obstacles. A great family show and filled with wisdom, this is recommended to anyone who likes sitcoms, comedies and well just television.
Africa is a beautiful documentary about the wildlife in he continent that holds the worlds oldest secrets and animals... the start of all life as we know it. The scenes are beautiful and the cinematography does not disappoint. BBC has done it again, I recommend this to the nature documentary nut.
Masters of sex is a period drama about the study of human sexuality. This is done purely in the pursuit of science and to advance society's knowledge on the beginning of life and the study of sex. Showtime chose an odd subject to base a television series on but the story is well written and done in good fashion. If we can understand the science behind what the mind and body go through when having sex... we can unlock a new chapter in human history (as doctor Masters would put it), a sexual and spiritual revolution.
Six is a drama that follows a group of marines... Seal Team 6. This tale depicts the brutality of war, the sorrow of loss and the spirit of honor. Seal Team 6's former commander and instructor gets captured by a group of terrorists. The show follows a many of soldier through struggles living a civilian life away from war and in the search of their former Team Leader. Being out of touch and with fracture mind these soldiers are battling more than just terrorists and radicals.... their fighting a battle of the mind. Many flash backs touch the soul and widen the series horizon and demonstrates that even the fiercest warriors have a morale and angelical code.
Backstrom is a crime drama following an erratic, irritated, realist, asshole detective part of a special crimes unit. The main character is a fucked up individual with his priorities in a knot, his health in the gutter and his head up his own ass. His option of humanity is a roller-coaster ride of deduction, pessimism and representation. The portrayal of the main character isexcellent but many of the supporting actors aren't very well cast and miss the mark. With a little elbow grease and better production the show could have live a couple seasons. I enjoyed this show... recommended for the crime addict.
Psychoville is a British sitcom about a whole lot of people brought together. I couldn't get past the first episode... Most of the acting is terrible, the characters are ludicrous and the script is well moronic. I don't recommend you waste your time with this one unless you want a lobotomy by television series...
Caprica is a science fiction drama pre-cursing the series "Battlestar Galactica". Caprica dates 50 odd years before the fall and explains many of the assemblies that follow in "Battlestar Galactica". The story demonstrates the creation of A.I. and the stepping stones to the fall. The show is pretty well cast and the story is a compelling one but falls short near the end of the season. Also, the script was a little shaky and some scenes where unneeded, boring and misguided. I also disliked the main actress playing Zoe. Some of the acting isn't very good and some of the fighting scenes aren't choreographed very well but the show is still a decent prequel to "Battlestar Galactica". I wouldn't watch this show if you aren't a "Battlstar Galactica" fan though...
19-2 is a Canadian crime drama about 2 beat cops in Montreal from "precinct 19 and car 2". The show delves into the lives of all the men and women in the 19th precinct and demonstrates the bond of policemen. The character building in this show is immense and you will fall in love with the characters. The cast is lit with good Canadian actors and the story is a well detailed and oiled machine. I recommend this show to the crime drama addict.
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency is a mystery comedy drama thriller about a series of bizarre and untimely events that involve an odd sort of detective plus a man who gets roped in by circumstance. These misfortunate events lead the pair on a wild and ghastly adventure. Cause and effect... everything is connected... intertwined... A real test of the imagination. The cast is filled with B list actors that hit their parts. The story has a lively and twisting plot that will keep you watching... This show isn't for everyone... its out there...
