When AMC announces a new show, given their track record, it is either going to be excellent or good. I can't say that I watched everything on AMC, but I've never heard of any horribly bad shows on AMC in several year. All that being said, this show falls into their "good" pile, not their "excellent" pile. The acting is decent, no one really stands out as amazing, the plot is interesting but not so interesting that you can't wait to see what happens next week. This is probably AMC's weakest link in the past 7 or so years. Regardless, it is good enough to recommend, I had just hoped for better.
I love sci-fi and this show is rater pretty highly on this site and others, but I really didn't like it. The opening was great, but something took a turn about 20 minutes in...I hate to use the excuse that it seemed they were trying too hard, but I think that was it. Everything but the kitchen sink was in the pilot, and I assume it has got to even out after a few episodes. I'll give it a second chance in the summer when there's nothing else on and hopefully I'll be able to finish episode 2 then.
Who else used to watch this only during the auditions just to hear Simon tear the bad singers a new one? I'm nice, but that was a guilty pleasure for me. When he left, so did I, despite my thinking he was horribly mean for saying most of the things he said, I couldn't help but laugh.
Well this was interesting... If you're a fan of ballet, you will love the work in the last episode. if you are a fan of drama, this has plenty, and its dysfunctional drama. I'm not sure there are any likeable characters, this is why I haven't rated it higher. Also, this is a one-season run show, but it doesn't seem as if that was the initial intention because the ending is not very satisfying. Without spoiling anything... it does not end with a cliffhanger (thank God) but the viewer is left to make assumptions.
I may be the only one who has not watched the Evil Dead movies. Not having read up on the series other than watching a promo and thinking it would be great, I watched the pilot and it was well acted and seems like it has a healthy budget because the production quality was good. That being said although I am not as hyped as others who have been long time fans of the films, if I were, I would be happy with how high quality this pilot was. This is an example of how to successfully transition a film to a TV series. I'll stop watching for now until I watch the films, you don't need to have watched the films, but I'd prefer to.
The first season I kept watching to find out the "how" and "why" of the plot, and it was interesting. But after watching the season 2 opener, it just seems like the writers ran out of steam and aren't quite sure of what to do next. So yes, good actors, but not much to keep you invested as a viewer past the initial outbreak.
I'm Canadian, and if you are too then you know how rare it is to have a good 100% Canadian show (not merely an American produce show that is filmed in Canada). The first season was very interesting but you could see that it was "Canadian" whereas in later seasons it didn't have that low budget Canadian vibe. But the problem with the later seasons is that it seemed that the writers didn't really know what to do with the show and the plots just got more and more weird. I stuck in, straight through to the series finale two days ago (despite the Sidereel error showing it is currently airing). And while it did become a show I could live without, it had a great run and I'm happy to have supported a Canadian show.
I've been watching this for years and although the first season was great, my interest declined slightly after each season and finally by season 3 I was just watching out of habit. The acting is good, the writing is good, but somehow the show seems tired... unless this season turns things on its head, 2015 needs to be its final year.
How have I not rated this yet? It's now season 2, and after watching the first episode I remember thinking the show was so poorly written in terms of the portrayal of what actually happens in law school and the lack of sanctioning unethical behaviour of lawyers. If you know a lawyer, are a lawyer, or know anything about the way law school actually works, you will spend most of your time rolling your eyes at some of the absurdly impossible things that occur in the classroom and courtroom. If you put that aside and suspend your disbelief, this is an interesting show that is led by a strong leading actress, which is it's only saving grace because the plot devices and cheap thrills the show uses are lost on me.
I gave this show another chance and enjoy the plot, despite how despicable and unlikable almost every character is, it is certainly worth your time because someone always dies and there's always a plot twist that has a second twist to it. At the very least, it could be watched to simply place bets on who is going to die and who you think the killer could be.
This show will require you to suspend your disbelief in a way that no other show has ever demanded. I wanted to stop watching five minutes into the pilot episode but out of sheer respect for Alfre Woodard and Jason Momoa (and hoping he might take his clothes off), I continued watching. I watched in horror as they managed to cram plot hole after plot hole after cramming a bunch of contrived cliches and plot devices into the first half hour. Yet I continued to watch... but still his clothes were on.
One star is for them managing to get Alfre Woodard, a well respected actress, to act as though this was her first role ever. The half star is for them managing to get Jason Momoa to wear the same clothes he wore on Game of Thrones, which ironically enough was set in the past while this show is set hundreds of years in the future. I instantly recognized that this was filmed all over British Columbia and that results in some beautiful backdrops and gorgeous scenery. Other than these three reasons, I found the show to be absolutely unwatchable.
My goodness, this was bad. So bad that I actually believe I could do better and I am not at all a creative person and have zero experience as a director, or producer, but yeah, this was trash. Sorry Jason, sorry Alfre, I had hoped to fall in love with your new show. May Apple stick to making phones and computers or literally anything else other than TV shows.
